1. Overview Contents Home

RDDFS Instant INSIGHT is a unique data analysis and presentation tool that provides immediate, intimate and intuitive insight into a study’s findings. Instant INSIGHT goes beyond traditional cross-tabs and scatter charts to expand both the depth and meaning of survey data analysis with:

Quick and easy identification of sample sub-segments

“On the fly” testing of new analytical criteria

Easy export of findings to reports and presentations

Custom-branding to reflect your, and your end-clients' brands

As shown above, Instant INSIGHT combines standard survey data with custom configuration information to create client ready Project Files. The sample Project File screen shot below shows how users explore survey data by resizing the data Selection Box for desired combinations of chart and table data.

There are two ways to use RDDFS Instant INSIGHT: 1) Request Instant INSIGHT for projects conducted by RDDFS and receive ready-to-explore configured data. 2) Purchase Instant INSIGHT licenses from RDDFS to quickly and expertly create your own Project Files in the format your end clients’ desire.

5. Data and Configuration Contents Home

5.1 Data File Function: Data Files provide 1 to N survey responses for 1 to M survey questions. Data Files are formatted according the categorization, display, and label options provided in the Configuration File and the “On the fly” Select Data options chosen by Instant INSIGHT users.

5.2 Data File Format: An Excel 2007 or later file with questions as columns and individual responses as rows. Each data column has a unique identification header referenced by the Configuration File. In the Data File example shown below, “1Cat” and “2Cat” are example column identifiers.

5.3 Data File Capacity: The number of data rows and columns is only limited by Excel and PC memory capacities. Note the use of large Data Files, for example 50K survey responses, or the Select Data choice of more than 10 display Tables will slow Instant INSIGHT’s screen update time.

5.4 Data File Content: Any positive numerical, text, or null value are accepted. Numerical data formatted as text and negative numbers are not allowed. The Data File example below shows data codes for columns A and B and continuous numerical data for columns C and D. The Data File may contain data not referenced by the Configuration File.

5.5 Data File Best Practices: To reduce Project File size, only include data that users may want to explore. To increase Project File configuration flexibility, include all data that users may want to explore by means of future Configuration File updates.

5.6 Configuration File Function: Configuration Files determine how Data File data is displayed in Instant INSIGHT by defining: (1) data display functions, (2) data labels, (3) categorization options, and (4) display and table selection order as seen in the Select Data form.

5.7 Configuration File Format: An Excel 2007 or later file format with labels in the A column and data configuration definitions starting in columns B moving to the right. Each type of configuration definition Function has a unique format described in the following sections.

5.8 Configuration File Capacity: There is no practical limit to the number of Configuration File data display functions. More than one data display function may apply to one column of Data File data. The order, from left to right, of configuration display functions determines the order of Display or Table Select Data options shown in the Select Data form.

5.9. Configuration File Content: The sample Configuration File below shows the format of the six Instant INSIGHT data Display Functions described below: (1) Display, (2) DisplayN, (3) Display|N1|N2, (4)Table, (5) SummaryN, and (6) SummaryT. The first Configuration File row is the ID that matches the column ID in the Data File. The second row defines the Display Function for the associated data column. The third row defines the title of the Display axis or Table heading. The 4

th through 14

th rows define Display Function labels and codes.

5.10 Display Functions

5.10.1 Display: Defines the labels and the associated data codes required to display categorized data on the selection chart. One to 11 labels are used for vertical or horizontal axis data display. Each label is separated by a “|” symbol from the codes that define what Data File data is associated with that label. The following are examples that illustrate Instant INSIGHT data coding options:

● 18-24|1 where “18-24” is the category label and “|1” is the data code ● 18-54|1|2 where “18-54” is the category label and “|1|2 are two data codes (no limit to number) ● 18-64|1-3 where “18-64” is the category label and “|1-3” is the data code range ● 18-54 and 65+|1-2|4 where “18-54 and 65+” is the category label and “|1-2|4 are the data codes ● Interest|0.085-0.115 where “Interest” is the label and |0.085-0.115 is the data code range ● No Answer|[] where “No Answer” is the category label and |[] is a special data for null data ● No Answer|[Other] where “No Answer” is the label and “|[Other]” is a special code that represents all data not otherwise categorized

5.10.2 DisplayN: This function displays continuous data normalized to a 0 to 1 scale. That data is displayed across the entire range of the vertical or horizontal axis with labels in positions 1 to 11 starting from the upper left hand corner of the display chart. The example to the right shows continuous data display with 11 vertical labels and 2 horizontal labels. The continuous display shows record indicators instead of cross tab numbers.

For more information about RDDFS Instant INSIGHT, contact us: 503.977.8725, or [email protected]. Page 9

5.10.3 Display|N1|N2: The same as DisplayN except it normalizes continuous display data using N1 as the

minimum range value and N2 as the maximum range value.

5.10.4 Table: Defines categories for a four column Table display as shown in the following example. Table shows the number and percentage of survey responses chosen with the Selection Box in blue to compare with number and percentage of the entire survey sample shown in black. There is no limit to the number of categories that may be defined in a Table. Tables are also uniquely able to count the same response in multiple categories, which is not possible for Display categorizations.

Variations of the Table function include:

● TableN%: Shows only the number and percent of selected records ● TableN: Shows only the number of selected records ● Table%: Shows only the percentage of selected records

5.10.5 SummaryN and SummaryT: SummaryN shows Min, Max, Ave, and Std numerical statistics for selected continuous data. SummaryT shows comparative statistics for the entire survey sample. Each set of adjacent Summary functions defined in the Configuration File has one set of Min, Max, Ave, and Std labels.
