Make sure the battery is charged at home at night. DO NOT BRING YOUR POWER CORDS TO SCHOOL – THIS IS NOT PERMITTED.

If you were unable to charge your battery overnight due to power outage – then see the TSO when you arrive at school in the morning.

Before putting the laptop back in the hard case – ensure it is shutdown completely and not in sleep/standby mode.

If the laptop is still in standby mode and placed in the case – it will overheat and destroy the CPU. This will be regarded as negligence and repairs will need to be paid for by your parents/guardian.

Laptop OwnershipYou do NOT own your laptop. All DER laptops are

owned by the school TSO. The only time you take full ownership of your laptop is when you have completed Year 12.

This means that any breach of the laptop user charter, could result in the school teachers confiscating your laptop and you losing the privilege of using the laptop at school or having to leave it at school and not take it home.

Page 16: S3 2011 student_handout_evening_presentation

UpdatesWhen you log onto the school wireless system,

your laptop will automatically download any Microsoft updates as well as updates from DER to make sure the laptop continues to perform correctly.

If your laptop breaks at ANY time. No matter how old the laptop is. The replacement laptop will ALWAYS be exactly the same colour and specification of the original laptop.

This means that if you break your laptop, you WILL NOT BE GIVEN THE LATEST MODEL AS A REPLACEMENT. The replacement will be the same as the laptop it is replacing.

Depending on the circumstances, replacement will only be at the Principal’s discretion.

All your internet surfing is tracked and recorded in Sydney on a file server. These records can be accessed at any time.

Should you try to perform any hacking - this is also recorded and the TSO will be notified and your laptop will be taken from you. Hacking is also a criminal offence, so the police may also be involved.
