• In 2010 Facilities Division of the Airport made a shift tousing Electric Vehicles for their daily operations on theairfield. Since these vehicles do not need to travel oncommercial roadways, the Airport can reduce their impacton air quality and reduce the carbon footprint of theiroperations.

• These electric vehicles require Level 1 charging which is asimple 110V, 3-prong outlet are available in offices, homewalls, and garages.

• SJC has installed EV 8 chargers in the hourly parkingsouth of Terminal B to serve customer vehicles whileparked at the Airport. The chargers were provided throughan air quality settlement by California Air Resources Boardalong with a grant to Southwest Airlines to install GroundSupport Equipment (GSE) chargers. Southwest is in theprocess of converting their GSE fleet to electric to reducetheir air quality impact.

• SJC has a comprehensive Alternative Fuels Program (AFP) thatprovides incentives to encourage tenants to convert their vehiclesto CNG or other alternative, cleaner burning vehicles.

• In an effort to reduce Green House Gas emissions, the Airportconverted the entire fleet of airport shuttle buses from diesel toCNG.

• In 2002 the Airport installed a CNG fueling station to provide analternative fuel option for Airport shuttle buses, and taxis. Thestation also sells fuel for public consumption and pumps theequivalent of over 600,000 gallons per year.

• Through policy we require one quarter of all taxi trips to usealternative fuels including CNG and hybrid vehicles. The airporttaxi fleet has 91 CNG vehicles and twenty hybrid cars.

• Out of 300 taxis permitted to operate at the Airport, currently 119are now CNG taxis. Since 2000, the Airport has only purchasedalternate-fuel vehicles. Approximately 25% of the Airport fleet ofvehicles is now CNG vehicles.
