How It WorksDynamic Multi-Path Optimization is delivered by the unique combination of

three capabilities:

Continuous MonitoringAutomatic detection and monitoring of any attached WAN circuits provides a real-time assess-ment of WAN circuit capacity and performance profile including latency, jitter and packet loss on a uni-directional basis. This automates the provisioning of sites, as configurations don’t need to be manually adjusted on a site-by-site basis depending on the particular circuits available. The re-al-time performance profile also drives the Dynamic App Steering and On-Demand Remediation.

Dynamic App SteeringBased on the business priority and the current link conditions, recognized application flows are steered on a per packet basis to the optimal link or links. VOIP calls can be steered mid-stream without call interruption as brownout conditions are detected on any WAN link. High band-width UC video streams can be split across multiple links as well. Dynamic app steering enables sub-second reaction to any brownout or blackout occurrences as well.

On Demand RemediationIn addition to being able to steer around brownouts, if all links experience degradations concur-rently, or there is only one link available, then on demand remediation of packet loss or jitter can ensure the performance of UC applications.

Solution Details The VeloCloud Cloud-Delivered SD-WAN solution is deployed into existing WAN

architectures incrementally and with minimal disruption and risk.

The VeloCloud Edge is delivered as a virtual network func-tion that is deployed on the UCS-E module in the Cisco Integrated Services Router (ISR). The branch deployment is flexible and sites can be migrated incrementally:

ɚ Traffic can be dynamically and selectively forwarded into the SD-WAN overlay with dynamic routing. This provides a resilient design.

ɚ This capability can be added to some or all branch sites while maintaining full interoperability and con-nectivity between sites

ɚ Dynamic Multi-Path Optimization supports standard IPsec encryption for session privacy as well as dynamic branch to branch connectivity for optimal perfor-mance and scaling

VeloCloud Orchestrators and distributed Controllers provide centralized and resilient monitoring and manage-ment of the SD-WAN Edges. These components can be hosted by a service provider or deployed on premises by the enterprise as software components.

Enterprise UC DeploymentThe VeloCloud SD-WAN headend can be deployed in several ways for optimized performance. For smaller scale de-ployments, a virtual Edge on a Cisco ISR can serve as the enterprise hub, while larger deployments might leverage a standalone Edge as a hub. This could either be a virtual Edge or a pre-packaged appliance on a standard x86 plat-form. The Orchestrator offers tiered operator, partner and customer portals, each with multiple user roles.

UC Service Provider Deployment For UC cloud service providers, SD-WAN provides the ability to both deliver their UC application and assure applica-tion performance over the top of broadband enabled WANs. The broadband can be provided by the SP or by the cus-tomer in a Bring-Your-Own-Circuit (BYOC) arrangement. For the hosted UCaaS offerings, the service provider would install a multi-tenant virtual Gateway at their UCaaS cloud datacenters, as well as multi-tenant Orchestrator.

The VeloCloud Gateways enable the cloud service providers to also offer SD-WAN managed access to IaaS hosted applications as well. The Gateways can be provisioned with secure IPsec tunnels to Cisco carrier services routers (CSR) deployed in the IaaS datacenters.
