Organelles in the Animal Cell Karina Liles, Robbie McKenzie, Corey Murphy, & Tiffany Rippy Times New Roman 20 pt. Black

Coach 1 (def.)

All living organisms on Earth are divided in pieces called cells. Animal cells are the cells found in animals. Cells are small compartments that hold all of the equipment necessary to keep an organism alive and successful on Earth. A main purpose of a cell is to organize. There are smaller pieces to cells that include proteins and organelles. Cell organelles are the structures within a cell that help a cell survive.

Coach 2 (function)

You are made up of trillions of animal cells. One of the most important ways that animal cells are different from plant cells is that animal cells can't make their own food.

Coach 1 (def.)

Centrioles produce the microtubles in the cell. The Golgi packages macromolecules for transport in the cell.

Coach 2 (function)

The four major organelles of an animal cell are the nucleus, vacuole, cytoplasm, and cell membrane.

Coach 1 (def.)

The word membrane means a layer of material that separates one part from another.

Coach 2 (function)

The cell membrane is also known as the skin. It protects the cell from harmful things.

Coach 1 (def.)

In an animal cell the vacuole has a minor role, only helping in the digestion of food. The vacuole is very small in an animal cell, and it’s overall role is very limited.

Coach 2 (function)

In plant cells the vacuole serves a much larger purpose, turgor pressure, which gives plants their ability to be strong or weak depending on the amount of water within the vacuole.

Coach 1 (def.)

The cytosol, what makes up the cytoplasm, is a mixture of water, salt, and other molecules.

Coach 2 (function)

Cytoplasm is a gel-like material and holds other organelles in their place. It is found inside the cell membrane and outside of the nucleus.

The Nucleus was running place. It was controlling all activities in the cell/office. It's always happy because it contains all of the genetic material to be passed on to the next generation of cells in the form of DNA. Times New Roman 20 pt. White

Coach 1 (def.)

REGULATING is the act of controlling or directing. The nucleus

regulates all cell activity.

DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. DNA contains the genetic

instructions used in the development and functioning of all known

living organisms.

Coach 2 (function)

The nucleus is the control center of the cell. It is a highly specialized organelle that serves as the information processing and administrative center of the cell. The nucleus has two major functions: it stores the cell's hereditary material, or DNA, and it coordinates the cell's activities, which include growth, and reproduction (cell division).

Cell Replication - the process whereby DNA makes a copy of itself

before cell division

Cell Division - the process in reproduction and growth by which a cell

divides to form daughter cells

Chromosomes - a threadlike strand of DNA in the cell nucleus that

carries the genetic material

Page 12: Storyboard

Coach 1 (def.)

In plants, the outer layer is not called a cell membrane, it is called a cell wall. It protects the plant cell just as the cell membrane does in the animal cell.

Coach 2 (function)

If the cell membrane let everything enter through its layer, the cell would be infected and could not work the way it should to keep animals alive and healthy.

Digestion is a process that takes place within the cell. It is the breaking down of material into smaller pieces.

Coach 2 (function)

A vacuole is found inside the cell and is found in plant and animal cells. Vacuoles are storage compartments which are filled with water and nutrients. The vacuole has no basic shape or size, its structure varies according to the needs of the cell.
