Annex 1 - Sembcorp Water Technology Prize Rules and Regulations

1. Eligibility1.1 The competition is opened for registration for students from Secondary Two to Year Two of Junior College.1.2 Each school is allowed to send 1 team.

2. Team Size2.1 Each team should comprise six students.

3. Project Theme3.1 Into its 3rd year, Sembcorp Water Technology Prize 2012/ 2013 focuses on the sociology of water sustainability, relating to Singapore and the world. Besides learning about Singapore’s Four National Taps and the technology behind each National Tap. Students will explore how water treatment plants ensure that their membranes are operating at maximum efficiency.

4. Project Requirement and Training Programme4.1 All school teams will participate in the technology competiton 4.2 The top 10 teams with the highest scoring points from the technology competition progress to the finals. At the workshop, the teams learn through hands-on experience using physical equipment, how to operate mini water treatment plants to treat local catchment water. NEWater and desalinated water technologies will be demonstrated.4.3 The top 10 teams with the highest scoring points from the technology competition progress to the finals. The Components of the assessment are for participating teams are: · Quickly identify problematic membranes in a large array; · To shoot a video about the Four National Taps and share their experiences via Facebook.4.4 To efficiently operate a scaled down version of the four national taps, with their associated water treatment technologies.

5. Prizes5.1 The 1st Prize winning team will receive $1200 cash and internship with Sembcorp. 5.2 The 2nd Prize winning team will receive $1000 cash.5.3 The 3rd Prize winning team will receive $800 cash.

6. Copyright / Intellectual Property6.1 Sembcorp and PUB reserve the right to use, reproduce, edit, display, transmit and prepare derivative works of, modify, publish the submitted work or other information in any form and media.

8. Judging and Results8.1 The final results will be judged by a panel comprising distinguished experts from Sembcorp, the Singapore Membrane Technology Centre from Nanyang Technological University and PUB.8.2 Submitted projects will be judged based on four parameters: · Volunteer two students (10%) as SWTP Ambassadors by 26th Oct 2013 · Presentation video (20%) · Overall design of filtration system (20%) · Most amount of water collected (50%)8.3 The projects will be judged by a panel of judges and their decision will be final. No correspondence pertaining to the selection process will be entertained.8.4 Winners will be notified via email and a formal letter.

9. Acceptance of Rules and Regulations9.1 Submission of entries represents acceptance of the rules and regulations of the competition.
