DESCRIPTION

According to a report released earlier this month by the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP), 2012 saw the highest yearly total of homicides related to intimate partner violence ever recorded. Published to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the report provides an in-depth look at intimate partner violence in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) and HIV-affected communities in the United States. Verizon Wireless is committed to addressing this critical issue that impacts these communities. Through HopeLine from Verizon, the company donated $25,000 to the NCAVP to develop and launch an app for smartphones. With the app, users will be able to report violence they experience or witness, including intimate partner violence and sexual assault. The app will also connect users with counselors and provide resources to individuals in the LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities who experience violence. Founded more than 20 years ago, the NCAVP is committed to developing and implementing a national platform from which to fight anti-LGBTQ and HIV-affected violence and advocating for city, state and federal policies that impact those communities. To help speak out against intimate partner violence, get involved with a local NCAVP program or donate a no-longer-used wireless phone or accessory to HopeLine.
