IATA – Recommendation on electronic standardsIATA recommends the use of electronic standards to reduce the cost of managing diversity in systems integration

IATA publishes electronic standards:Cargo Interchange Message Procedures, i.e. CIMP focused on communications with airlines regarding transportationXML focused on communications of trade information mainly for Customs purposes

WCO is developing XML equivalents of their existing EDIFACT standards

IATA – Strategy for new XML standardsThe industry bodies (CBPP & CPCMG & CDITF) reviewed and endorsedthe IATA position paper on XML and agreed that:

Where no standards existed to meet the industry requirements, IATA and supply chain stakeholders created task forces to develop XML standards (e.g. Invoice, Packing List)

For existing CIMP messages that should have an XML equivalent, IATA and supply chain stakeholders created this task force to develop XML standards

The Cargo Committee endorsed “ambitious” target dates to develop the following messages in XML

House Waybill June 09Air Waybill August 09Shipper’s Letter of Instruction October 09House Manifest December 09
