TRENDS IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPENDING IN 2015
By Antoine Chaya
Introduction
A graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Antoine Chaya earned his doctoral degree in information technology management. The senior director of strategic accounts with Oracle Corporation, Antoine Chaya also co-authored a paper on the positive impact on business of information technology spending.
Information technology spending as a whole is expected to increase by nearly 3 percent in 2015, amounting to a projected $3.5 trillion or more in worldwide spending. To keep up with the pace of the industry and to respond to a number of high-profile issues that occurred in 2014, the fastest-growing specialties include cloud computing and security.
Information Technology Spending Perhaps the most significant change for small or
mid-sized companies, the shift from traditional infrastructure to cloud computing refocuses spending to a low-maintenance, secure, updated interface that uses software as a service. Related to cloud computing, information technology security will gain importance throughout 2015. To defend against complex cyberattacks, especially as security services themselves move to the cloud, security spending is also expected to focus on attacks that use hacked systems as vectors to reach more protected information.
