TTW-X2 UTILITY SHORTFIELD LONG RANGE PLUS 2500 NM MTOW 6000kg Takeoff distance 300 meters Prandtl-D aircraft 24.-meter wingspan The tailless configuration was chosen to deliver on the simplicity. The large wing area ensures low take-off and landing distances without the need for large and powerful high lift systems. It also frees up the aft fuselage for a large clamshell door, the lower part of which forms a loading ramp, while the upper part hinges completely out of the way for loading of large cargo items. The nose section also hinges for end-to-end loading. The cross section of the fuselage is the same as an ISO container, so standard palletized cargo can be efficiently loaded. The structure of the fuselage is a carbon fiber shell for strength, lightweight and corrosion resistance. The inside of the fuselage will be protected from internal damage by sacrificial side panels, which can be easily replaced, allowing for carefree cargo handling. The load bearing structure will be a carbon fiber sandwich, which will be made in a single large mold and will reduce parts count by 90% compared with similar sized aircraft, which will aid in reducing maintenance and inspection to almost zero as well as reducing manufacturing/assembly time in production. The floor type is interchangeable, and can provide either cargo rollers or seat rails. Seating may be arranged down the sides for military/parachute use or 2+1 seating 3 abreast seating for 21 passengers. Passengers may embark either through the rear clamshell door/ramp, or through the door just aft of the cockpit. The low stance of the fuselage will mean that the aircraft can operate independently of air-stairs. The main landing gear is fixed and semi-recessed into the fuselage sides and the nose gear is also non-retractable, but can be steered. The wing skins, like the fuselage will be of a sandwich construction, and will house fuel between the engine ribs. The LE will be removable for easy replacement/repair from bird strike. The wing, like the fuselage, will reduce parts count by 90% compared with similar conventional aircraft, reducing maintenance, and weight as well as manufacturing cost and cycle time. The wing will probably be braced in order to keep weight down. Propulsion will be via 2 pusher props mounted on the wings trailing edge. The props are powered by 4-6 electric motors. These provide redundancy for engine failure – as each is mounted to a common prop shaft. Power for the electric motors will be provided by 2 on board 500shp APUs and batteries, which work together for takeoff, and climb-out, then the APUs work alone for climb, before shutting one down for cruise and descent. The concept is designed for ultimate utility and operation away from service bases. Spare tires are carried and can be changed at any location, and APUs and electric motors can be easily replaced with minimal equipment. The TTW-X2 UTILITY will provide almost continuous service with no major issues relating to fatigue or corrosion. The simplicity of the design will allow aircraft production to be licensed to manufacturers all around the world and it promises to be the airborne version of the Toyota pickup or minibus.
