Ubiqi Health’s mobile application platform enables organizations to engage consumers through branded or non-‐branded disease management tools that are patient-‐centric, easy-‐to-‐use, and are accessible anytime and anywhere. Our mobile and web-‐based tools help people better understand their condition, share information with their support network, and have a more meaningful dialogue with healthcare providers. The Ubiqi Health platform includes connectivity to a central database, allowing our partners to access aggregated, de-‐identified data about engagement levels and health outcomes.
INNOVATION RESULTS:
Since launching in late November 2010, Ubiqi Health’s first application, Migraine Tracker, has reached an installed user base of over 8,000 migraine sufferers from around the world. Our key findings:
Utilization rates: encouraging, but we could still do better! 25% of our users have logged at least five entries and 5% of our users have made at least 20 entries.
Demographics: age and gender groups reflect similar demographics for migraine population; however, surprisingly only 55% of our users reside in the United States, with 7% residing in India
Top treatments cited: abortive medication, inactivity, darkness Top triggers cited: stress, change in weather, change in sleep patterns
The key conclusions that we have drawn from reviewing user data, and surveying and interviewing our users over the past 10 months are:
Engagement levels are highest when the patient knows that she is sharing her information with another person, most frequently, her care provider, but also with family and friends. To support this, Ubiqi Health is integrating social networking functionality into our platform.
Trigger tracking and pattern recognition is a key reason people use Ubiqi Health. Given the common triggers cited, we plan to support integration with external data sources (e.g., weather data and sleep monitoring tools) to further enhance understanding of triggers.
Ubiqi Health makes disease management accessible by providing consumers with easy, condition-‐specific tools. Having started with web and mobile tools for migraine sufferers to track their migraines and better understand the impact of their treatments and triggers, Ubiqi is now partnering with healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies to offer consumers with tools for a range of conditions.
