INTRODUCTION• Since the oil crisis in the early 1970’s,
utilization of solar and wind power has become increasingly significant, attractive and cost-effective. In recent years, hybrid PV/Wind system (HPWS) has become alternatives to meet environmental protection requirement and electricity demands. With the complementary characteristics between solar and wind energy resources for certain locations, hybrid PV/Wind system with Storage banks presents an unbeatable option for the supply of small electrical loads at remote locations where no utility grid power supply and It's also pollution less.

WHAT IS A HYBRID POWER SYSTEM
Hybrid systems, as the name implies, combine two or more modes of electricity generation together, usually using renewable technologies such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbines. Hybrid systems provide a high level of energy security through the mix of generation methods, and often will incorporate a storage system (battery, fuel cell) or small fossil fuelled generator to ensure maximum supply reliability and security. There are different types of Hybrid power systems :- Solar wind hybrid power plant. Wave, wind & solar hybrid power plant. Wind turbine with battery storage and diesel backup
generator.** only discuss about solar & wind hybrid power plant.

SOLAR ENERGY Four-fifths of the sun’s energy falls on the
oceans and drives the water cycle. Evaporation from the sea causes rain to fall on the land, resulting in the global hydropower resource. The remaining fifth of the sun’s energy falls on the land.
Sun rays converted into electrical energy by
Using PV (photovoltaic cell). Unlimited supply No negative impact Free of cost Free from pollution

SOLAR ENERGY(DISADVANTAGES)
Apart from its advantages few Disadvantages are as follows:- Solar power is not always completely predictable because it
depends on the amount of sunlight that reaches the Earth at any given time. This precludes solar power generation during the night when sunlight does not reach the part of the Earth in which the cell is located and limits solar power generation when cloud cover scatters portions of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Some forms of solar power are not currently cost competitive. A Photovoltaic power station is expensive to build, about 10% efficient, and the energy payback time is large of the order of five years.

WIND ENERGY The uneven heating of the earth’s surface
by the sun causes wind. This heat is absorbed by the ground or water and is then transferred into the air, causing differences in air temperature, density and pressure. These differences then create forces that push the air around. Like the water that flows in the river.
The wind contains energy that can be converted into electricity using wind turbines. Currently, more than 20,000 wind turbines are used for generating electricity around the world.

WIND ENERGY(DISADVANTAGES)
As Solar Energy Wind Energy too has some Disadvantages :- Wind power is irregular in many locations, because consistent
wind is needed to ensure continuous power generation Commercial generation requires a wind farm over large areas
having an effect on scenery
Thus to overcome from the disadvantages of these energy techniques we should combine these two techniques and By this we can achieve more efficient and environment friendly
energy source throughout year.

HYBRID PV & WIND POWER SYSTEM(HPWS)
WORKING :- Solar & Wind turbine produced DC power Inverter convert DC to AC Controller monitor’s the system
The System components:- PV Panels Wind Turbine & Aero-Wind Generator MPPT (Maximum power point
tracking) Controller Battery Bank Inverter Loads

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS :-
PV Panels:-A number of PV panels connected in series and/or in parallel giving a DC output
Wind Turbine & Aero-Wind Generator :-Which is installed on top of a tall tower, collects kinetic energy from the wind. An electric generator is coupled to the propeller shaft directly, this propeller in turn rotates rotor of the electric generator and in turn generates DC electricity. The output from the wind generator varies as per the wind speed.

MPPT (Maximum power point tracking) Controller:- •Controller compares voltages of PV panel & Battery•Figure out best voltage to charge Battery
Battery bank:-to Stored the energy
Inverter:-Converts stored DC power to AC
Loads:-Stands for the network connected appliances in the building that are fed from the inverter (AC loads), or from the battery bank(DC loads).

ADVANTAGES Very high reliability (combines wind power, and solar power) Long term Sustainability High energy output (since both are complimentary to each
other) Cost saving (only one time investment) Low maintenance cost (there is nothing to replace) No pollution The system can be designed for both off-grid and on grid
applications. ( Discuss only about the off-grid applications).

APPLICATIONS
Remote and Rural village electrification.
Street Lighting. Ideal for charging small device like
cell phone & other electronics. Residential colonies and
Apartments general Lighting.

CONCLUSION Because the seasonal profiles of the wind and solar
resources are somewhat complementary in some reason, combination of wind and solar perform better than either wind or solar alone .
Under the circumstance of power failure this hybrid system keeps the continuity of supply without producing any pollution .
High Efficiency than Individual systems.
