Diocletian was the Roman emperor who built the palace in the 3rd century which was the foundation of Split.

They needed water but the

river Jadro was 9 km away.

They built an aqueduct to supply the palace with water.

The Romans used water for public baths because they didn’t have the bathrooms at home.

When people built their own bathrooms the public baths were used for recreation, meeting people

and fun. Like the swimming pools nowadays.
