So where is everyone?
• What are organisations similar to your own doing? Talk to them about their experiences, what works and what doesn’t
• Google your own organisation, department and use the results page left hand side bar to check blogs, videos, discussion forums for mentions of you...
• .. or use something like http://www.searchlion.com/ or http://www.zuula.com/ to quickly switch between different search tools
• http://search.twitter.com/ or http://topsy.com/ for mentions on Twitter

• 140 character tweets that are by default public• People choose whether or not to follow you• General chat, what’s happening at conferences, what
people are saying about companies, products, services, and about you
• Retweets and mentions by followers and their followers expand your audience
• Tweet blog postings, events, news, photos, comments on what’s happening
• Be interactive: respond to questions, monitor @mentions, set up alerts for your organisation

‘Embeds’ help spread the word!
• Monitor social media presences even if you are just republishing content– respond to negative (and positive) comments
– people expect you to reply to messages and questions
• You won’t have the time or resources to do everything so try and identify which activity has had the most positive impact
• Possible to use gadgets, widgets, APIs etc. to automatically publish content generated in one service to another e.g. Blog RSS feed to Twitter
BUT.....
• Tweets, for example, from an active Twitterstream may look odd and out of place when displayed out of context on a Facebook page
• Draw a map of where everything is going otherwise....

A Google ‘Project’ and, at present, individuals only. No ‘brands’, companies, or organisations. Very much experimental...
