Abercrombie & Kent pioneered private luxury travel, and no other company combines a worldwide presence with five decades of expertise in bringing unexpected comfort to exotic destinations.

A World of Expertise: Planning Your JourneyWhen it comes to planning a journey that is just right for you, there is no substitute for working alongside an expert and A&K has hundreds, in North America and around the world. Whereas other travel companies rely on third-party guides and suppliers, A&K maintains 50 offices worldwide, whose experts work tirelessly so that every aspect of your journey meets Abercrombie & Kents rigorous standards of quality and service.

The process begins with a phone call or email: simply tell us where you are thinking of going, and what you might like to do when you arrive. Your private travel specialist then works with you to learn your needs and preferences, eventually presenting you with a Tailor Made itinerary which you refine and perfect together. Along the way, your specialist answers all your questions and suggests options you may not even have considered. From the restaurants you dine in to the luxury hotels where each memorable day ends, A&K recommends the right choice for you, every step of the way.

    What makes A&K unique?

Wherever you travel, A&K helps you discover your destination in unmatched authenticity and style.

Award-Winning Standards, Time and Time AgainYear after year, A&Ks inspiring journeys win the recognition and praise of travellers and travel professionals alike. • The Great MigrationOne of nature most incredible spectacles, the Great Migration is a cycle of life and death, played out on the plains of the Serengeti and Masai Mara, when some 1.4 million wildebeests and other plains game make the yearlong, round-trip trek from Tanzanias Serengeti to the Masai Mara in Kenya in search of food and water. A&K keeps you in the center of the action, with mobile tented camps that move with the animals and programs that have you fly between camps for an incredible aerial view of the thundering herds crossing the plains.

Guides are trained in wilderness first aid, mountain craft, natural history and ecological awareness, and climbs are equipped with the finest climbing and camping apparatus. A&K offers excellent opportunities for acclimatization, giving our guests a successful summit rate of 97 percent; the average success rate for our competitors is 60-70 percent.

5 Amboseli National Park & Chyulu Hills (2-3 days recommended)Renowned for its breathtaking views of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park is fringed by Maasai villages and located in the Great Rift Valley. The photogenic Chylulu Hills, located nearby, are home to some of the largest breeding elephant bulls in Africa, who share the plains with lions, leopards, cheetahs and other plains game.

It also gives you an opportunity to discover the tribal life in a Maasai village. Our experts design an itinerary that meets your entire familys approval, with your interests at heart. In addition, we can arrange a visit to a local primary school where Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP) sponsors a Conservation Club that teaches children to preserve the environment.

7 Selous Game Reserve & Ruaha National Park (3-4 days recommended)The sheer vastness and diversity of the landscape, with hot volcanic springs, calm lakes and the great Ruaha and Rufiji Rivers make the Selous an amazing area to view wildlife. An excellent way to view local game is to track it on foot, accompanied by an armed guide. Ruaha National Park is a remote, undeveloped wilderness area in southern Tanzania. Its main feature is the Ruaha River, which runs through spectacular gorges and majestic trees in a dramatic landscape with more varied game than can be seen in northern East Africa.

8 Zanzibar (3-6 days recommended)An ideal place to unwind after a safari, Zanzibar is an unspoiled island paradise located off the coast of mainland Tanzania in the Indian Ocean. Zanzibar offers world-class watersports, including scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing and sailing on traditional dhows (wooden boats). For centuries, Zanzibar has lured traders, adventurers and explorers to its shores. In Stone Town, Zanzibars cultural old city, explore winding alleys and vibrant bazaars, and view the brass-studded carved wooden doors that are so famous there. Those interested in cooking might want to peruse the spice markets and stores.

9 Mahale Mountains National Park (3-4 days recommended)Track chimpanzees in their natural habitat of rugged, forest-covered mountains or snorkel and kayak Lake Tanganyika.

  • Uganda & RwandaUganda boasts forests, lakes, plains, semi-desert and mountains, and Rwanda is lush

and green with towering mountains and dense jungle. Both are known

for their dwindling population of mountain gorillas.

  • Chimpanzee Watching ExperienceStart your chimpanzee trek at Kanyanchu in Kibale National Forest. The chimpanzees feed high in the trees, so binoculars are a must. Barks of baboons occasionally pierce the forest silence as you make your way along the trail. For those who appreciate the finer details of the flora, animals, insects and birds, the rewards here are many and varied.

DESTINATION GUIDE | Create your perfect Tailor Made itinerary using these regional highlights.

1 Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park (2-3 days recommended)

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi is one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world. Just over half of the worlds last surviving mountain gorillas, 360 species of birds, 200 species of butterflies, and 324 different species of trees live within its exotic rainforest canopy. Gorilla tracking is a year-round activity and one of the most exclusive wildlife activities in the world. It is also home to the Batwa pygmy tribe.

2 Murchison Falls National Park (2-3 days recommended)With its variety of vegetation ranging from riparian forests and swampland to broad savanna, Murchison, Ugandas largest game park, is home to a large concentration of animals and birds. The main attraction, however, is Murchison Falls and the Nile River, and the highlight is a launch trip up the stream to observe the cascades and wildlife along the riverbank.

"In addition to gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking is one of the regions most popular activities. Join Kibale National Parks researchers and crew for a full day to observe their efforts habituating chimpanzees to human presence without altering their wild nature. For a glimpse of local culture, you can share a meal with the Batwa pygmies or join a mock hunting party . If you are in Rwanda in June, we can arrange for you to participate in Kwita Izina, the annual gorilla naming ceremony."

Best Time to Travel:The biggest consideration for when to go to Uganda and Rwanda is based on the rainfall pattern. The wettest months are April, May and November, and travelling on some roads can be difficult during those times. The best time to see larger

primates is during the dry months, but gorilla tracking is possible year-round.

Climate:Ugandas average daily temperature is 71, going up to about 81 between January-March and down to 61 from July-September. July is the driest month, and May is the wettest. In Rwanda, the dry season is from May-October, and temperatures are on par with Uganda.

3 Queen Elizabeth & Kibale Forest National Parks (3-4 days recommended)Flush with wildlife (about 100 mammal species and more than 600 bird species), Queen Elizabeth National Park has one of the highest bio-diversity ratings of any national park in the world. Many antelopes, primates, buffalo, elephants, warthogs and hippos can also be found here. If you visit Kibale Forest, you are likely to see some 11 species of primates, including chimpanzees and mangabeys.

4 Volcanoes National Park (2 days recommended)Volcanoes National Park is home to the seven dormant Virunga volcanoes and, like Uganda's Bwindi, it is an excellent place to track mountain gorillas. The densely forested slopes create the perfect habitat for the parks gorilla population. The park is also home to other primates, including red colobus monkeys and crested mangabeys.

5 Nyungwe National Park (2-3 days recommended)Nyungwe National Park is made up of rainforest, bamboo, grassland, swamps and bogs. It is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, as well as acrobatic Angola colobus monkeys, an estimated 500 chimpanzees, lHoests monkeys, olive baboons, grey-cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys and more than 300 bird species.

6 Lake Kivu (2-3 days recommended)An enormous freshwater expanse, Lake Kivu forms part of the Eastern African Great Lakes. The towns of Cyangugu, Kibuye and Gisenyi on its shores are ideal rest and recreation transit points.

Gorilla Tracking ExperienceTracking gorillas is a challenging adventure, but for guests who are in good physical health it is an incredible experience. Your expert guide takes your small group of privileged guests into the forest to locate the gorilla family. Once they are located, you are allowed an hour to observe them as they go about their daily business. Mothers keep infants close to their chests as they knuckle-walk on three limbs. Toddlers scamper around and often have to be reigned in by an attentive father. It is an amazing opportunity to bond with these primates, one of our closest genetic relatives on earth.

  • A lion making his way through marshland in the Okavango Delta

bushbucks, monkeys and baboons. The falls have also become a center for adventure sports enthusiasts who come from around the world to go whitewater rafting through gorges or bungee jumping from its bridge.

8 South Luangwa & Lower Zambezi National Parks (4-6 days recommended)South Luangwa National Park is a haven for elephants, lions and endemic species such as Thornicroft's giraffe. During night drives, spot nocturnal animals, including leopards and spotted hyenas. Birdlife is prolific, particularly on the oxbow lakes. The Luangwa River is one of the major crocodile habitats of Africa, and you are likely to see these creatures slinking onto the riverbank. Lower Zambezi National Park is crisscrossed by the Zambezi River, the life-source of enormous herds of elephants, buffalo and waterbucks, as well as 350 bird species. Choose between exploring the floodplains on foot or by 4x4 vehicle or more uniquely, by canoe, gently gliding through the thick reeds on the trail of hippos.

9 Sossusvlei, Swakopmund & the Skeleton Coast (4-5 days recommended)Desert flora and fauna punctuate the starkly beautiful, towering ochre-colored sand dunes of Sossusvlei in the heart of the Namib Desert. Some of the dunes reach to spectacular heights of nearly 1,200 feet. Swakopmund is Namibias resort town, filled with palm-lined streets, seaside promenades and good beaches surrounded by the Namib Desert. Dense fog, mighty storms and violent surf caused many ships to run aground on the Skeleton Coast, the worlds largest ship graveyard. It is an often-photographed desert coastline with rusty shipwrecks emerging eerily through the thick fog.

10 Damaraland & Etosha National Park (4-5 days recommended)Damaraland reveals rare black rhinos and desert elephants wandering among colorful geological formations and extensive galleries of rock paintings and engravings. Etosha National Park, set within the Etosha Salt Pan, is one of Africas greatest wildlife parks and is home to the Big Five, as well as more than 300 bird species.

    Time Difference:EST plus 7 hours

Best Time to Travel:Egypt can be visited year-round, though it is most comfortable in winter, spring and fall, when the desert temperatures are cooler.

Climate:Most of Egypt is located in the desert and is very hot and dry much of the year, but Alexandria is cooler

because of its location near the Mediterranean Sea. Luxor can be hot from May through September, with temperatures often above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Cairos summer temperatures average 80-90. Winters in Cairo are mild and pleasant; in Luxor temperatures still hover near 80 degrees.

DESTINATION GUIDE | Create your perfect Tailor Made itinerary using these regional highlights.

1 Cairo (5 days recommended)Cairo, which Egyptians proudly call the Mother of all Cities, lies at the center of all routes leading to and from Asia, Africa and Europe. It is also home to larger-than-life monuments, such as the great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx that have fascinated visitors for more than four millennia. A&K takes you on a virtual journey through history, from its sixth-century BC origins to the fourth-century AD Coptic era, and from the sixth-century AD Islamic center to the five-star luxury of its grand hotels.

2 Luxor (2 days recommended)Your A&K Nile cruise on Sanctuary Sun Boat III or Sun Boat IV includes a stop in Luxor. With private docking facilities here, you can go from ship to shore without ever transiting another companys ships. Along both the east and west banks of the Nile are some of Egypts finest temples and tombs. The west banks Valley of the Kings was the burial ground of the pharaohs, known as the Necropolis of Thebes, and more than 60 tombs have been discovered here. • first female pharaoh, is another highlight. Across the river on the east bank are the stately Temples of Luxor and Karnak. At night, you can see the spectacular sound and light show at Karnak, when the temples along the Nile are beautifully illuminated.

3 Aswan (1 day recommended)What was Syene in ancient times is today an intriguing blend of African and Oriental influences with the Aswan High Dam, built in 1970 to control the annual Nile flood, at its center. Aswan is also the location of the Unfinished Obelisk and the granite quarries that supplied most of the stone used to build the temples. A&K takes you around the Aswan islands in a felucca, a small traditional sailboat, for an experience reminiscent of an earlier era. See the Philae Temple that was dismantled piece by piece on Philae Island and reconstructed on Agilika when the water level behind the dam rose to a dangerous level.

4 Sinai: Mount Sinai & St. Catherines Monastery (1 day recommended)Called the oldest working Christian monastery and the smallest diocese in the world, St. Catherines on the Sinai Peninsula was built at the base of Mount Sinai. It is here that Moses is believed to have received the Ten Commandments from God. In the millennium-old monastery, discover many great works of art, including mosaics, Byzantine-styled icons and an important collection of illuminated manuscripts. Surrounding this old monastery is the city of St. Catherine one of the countrys newest.

Nile Cruises The pharaohs of ancient Egypt constructed luxurious boats to ferry themselves down the Nile in a manner befitting their exalted station. The tradition of luxury Nile River cruising is carried on by Abercrombie & Kent. The award-winning Nile cruisers Sanctuary Sun Boat III and Sun Boat IV offer the finest in comfort, service and exploration on the river today. They take you to both the must-see sites and the out-of-the-way marvels most other tours miss, such as Abydos and Denderah. Between site visits, your floating Nile home is yours to enjoy. Relax on the canopied Sun Deck, take a dip in the pool or stop in the bar for a cocktail. A&K makes your Nile cruise worthy of the pharaohs themselves.

  • 5 Sinai: Sharm El Sheikh (3 days recommended)Sharm El Sheikh is a year-round seaside city on the Sinai Peninsula, popular because of its moderate climate, miles of beautiful beaches and proximity to other local points of interest. With some of the worlds most amazing underwater scenery, the region is perhaps best known as a mecca for scuba divers and snorkelers. Ras Mohammed, a national marine park overlooking the Gulf of Aqaba, provides a commanding view of Asia to the left and Africa to the right above the water line; below it, visitors can explore a spectacular landscape of coral and sea life.

6 Alexandria (2 days recommended)Alexander the Great founded the city in 331 BC, and it became the capital of Greco-Roman Egypt. However, Alexandria is inextricably associated with the story of Cleopatra, whose relationship with Mark Antony developed here. When you visit this stunning city on the Mediterranean Sea, notice that it has much more of a Mediterranean than Middle Eastern feel.

  • Dahabieh Cruises There is no better way to experience the Nile at its most tranquil than on board a dahabieh (twin-sailed Egyptian yacht). Independent travellers to Egypt may charter a dahabieh including the Sanctuary Zein Nile Chateau, with space for 12 privileged guests on a customized private itinerary.

7 White Desert (3 days recommended)One of the distinctive wonders of Egypt, the White Desert is actually made of chalk that has been exposed for years to harsh weather conditions, the erosion creating a moonlike landscape of wind-sculpted white limestone unlike anywhere else on earth. Limestone formations that look like strange domes, minarets, castles and towers rise from the flat desert floor covered with stone artifacts, crystal quartz and small black meteorites shaped like stars. The White Desert is close to the Baharia Oasis, one of five lush oases in the Western Desert.

8 Abu Simbel (1 day recommended)Abu Simbel is home to the magnificent temple of Ramses II, which is fronted by four enormous statues of the pharaoh; each is more than 60 feet high. Impressive in itself, this great temple is further remarkable in that it was raised up the hillside when threatened by floodwaters from Lake Nasser and the High Dam project.

9 Siwa Oasis (3 days recommended)Located 60 feet below sea level on the edge of the "Great Sand Sea," the vast desert dominating much of the Egyptian landscape, Siwa is a lush, fertile oasis famous for its date and olive trees. Siwa Oasis is where Alexander the Great consulted the Oracle of Amun and was declared a legitimate heir to Egypt's throne. Because it is so far from the Nile River Valley, the isolated community's customs and traditions have remained relatively intact for centuries.
