Melbourne boasts some wonderful old theatres, rich in history, fame and infamy. There is always something on, proven in more recent times by the number of productions who have chosen Melbourne for their premiere.

Topped by a jeweled copper dome, the Forum Theatre is a fantastic and perhaps exaggerated arabic inspired building complete with clock tower, oriel windows, and cupola.

The interiors of the Forum are just as spectacular as the exteriors, and almost identical to the interiors of the Capitol theatre in Sydney.

When it opened in February 1929, the theatre had the largest seating capacity in Australia, holding 3371 people. It features a Moorish Revival exterior, with minarets and a clock tower

The exotic design continues as you step through the doors. Lavish moulded plaster, gold paint and reproduction casts of famous Greek and Italian sculptures line an auditorium interior topped with a soaring blue ceiling punched with stars designed to look like an open sky.

The Forum hosts cabaret, rock concerts and the annual Melbourne Film Festival.
