JOSEP PUIG I CADAFALCH 17-10-1867 – 23-12-1956 Architect, one of the most important of Catalan Modernism. Born in Mataro, Barcelona studied architecture and exact sciences in Barcelona, was appointed professor in the School of Architecture of Barcelona, in 1917 took over as President of the Mancomunitat de Catalunya. Puig was a disciple of Lluis Domenech i Montaner and is considered the last representative of modernism and the first of Noucentisme. During the Spanish Civil War was exiled in Paris and gave lectures on architecture and history at several universities, earning him international recognition. Puig received the title of honorary doctorates from several universities, including Paris. Returning to Spain he found that the new political regime did not allow him to exercise an architect, so that he could only rehabilitate and restore historic buildings and monuments. In 1942 he was named president of the Institute of Catalan Studies, a position he held until his death. He died at his home in Barcelona at the age of 89.

ELS QUATRE GATS is part of a long tradition of social gatherings, dinners and meetings of art peculiar to the city of Barcelona, but also inspired by the cabaret Le Chat Noir in Paris. Art exhibitions were held (the first two singles that Pablo Picasso made in his life took place there in February and July 1900), literary and musical evenings, puppet shows and shadow plays, and so on.

THE HOUSE AMATLLER chocolate industrialist Antoni AMATLLER Amatller and Costa, transformed a 1875 building, which had bought to move and ordered the works to Josep Puig i Cadafalch, who opted for giving the appearance of urban Gothic palace. Among the various artists who contributed, include Eusebi Arnau and Alfons Jujol responsible for the sculptureAcross the front there is a graffito that binds with a delicate pottery. The style is a mixture between Gothic Catalan and Flemish (in this case by the triangular shape of the flat top of the facade).

HOME AMATLLER The lobby, as was normal at the time of the making, was designed for the carriage entrance, has ornamentation and stained glass lamps with two stairs, the simplest to the most decorated floors and sumptuous for its passage to main floor.Since 1960 the house depends Amatller Institute of Hispanic Art, a foundation created by the descendants of Antoni Amatller. It has been declared historic-artistic monument by Decree of January 9, 1976.

THE HOUSE MACAYAIt is a modernist building located in the Ps. Of Sant Joan, 108, is a project from 1901.Was declared a National Cultural Interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya on January 9, 1976. THE FOUR IONIC COLUMNS were a monument to Catalan, representing the four suits of the Catalan flag and who was also linked to the idea of progress represented by the Fair or International Exposition in Barcelona in 1929.
