DESCRIPTION

YOU CAN WATCH THIS PRESENTATION IN MUSIC HERE (You have a link on the first slide): http://www.authorstream.com/Presentation/sandamichaela-1381531-budapesta-cartierul-castelului/ Thank you! The current neo-Baroque castle dates back to the late 19th c. The castle completely burnt out during World War II. Restoration revealed several parts of the medieval royal palace, and then it became home to the Hungarian National Gallery, the Budapest History Museum, National Széchényi Library and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Matthias Church is located at the heart of Buda's Castle District. According to church tradition, it was originally built in Romanesque style in 1015. The current building was constructed in the florid late Gothic style in the second half of the 14th century and was extensively restored in the late 19th century.

Buda is the western part of the Hungarian capital Budapest on the west bank of the Danube. Buda comprises about one-third of Budapest's complete territory and is mostly wooded and hilly. Notable landmarks include the Buda Castle and the Citadella. Buddha was a separate city until 1873, when united with Pest, located on the other bank of the Danube, formed the Hungarian capital, Budapest

While Pest was mostly Hungarian in the 15th century, Buda had a German majority. Germans — also clinging to their language — partly crowded out, partly assimilated the Hungarians and Serbians they have found here. With the rural population moving in the capital city, in the 19th century slowly Hungarians became the majority in Buda too.

Located at the heart of Buda's Castle District, Matthias Church was originally built in Romanesque style in 1015. The current building was constructed in the florid late Gothic style in the second half of the 14th century and was extensively restored in the late 19th century. It was the second largest church of medieval Buda and the seventh largest church of medieval Hungarian Kingdom.

Officially named as the Church of Our Lady, it has been popularly named after King Matthias, who ordered the transformation of its original southern tower.

Royal Palace in Budapest last took a serious beating during World War II, when it was almost entirely destroyed. Thankfully, in the 1950s, modern and thorough restorations of the Hungarian palace began, and the building is now a pleasing mix of architectural styles.

The imposing building of the Hungarian National Archives was built in historical-romantic style. The building is decorated with stone statues, not to mention the rich ornaments inside and the gilded tiled roof made in the Zsolnay factory in Pécs.
