Courchevel 1850 - Taking Luxury Ski Accommodation To The Next Level

Everyone knows that Courchevel is considered the most glamorous of the Alpine destinations. Every year the fashion set, celebrities and members of the glitterati and jet set gather there to see and be seen, enjoy fantastic skiing and network at some of the best restaurants and clubs in Europe.

Before I went I had been warned that Courcheval 1850were on another level when it came to style and service but I was not prepared for just exactly how out of this world they would be. As I approached the chalet Aurea five minutes from the town centre I knew this was going to be something totally different. If Toto had been next to me, I definitely would have remarked that we were not in Kansas anymore. This is ski accommodation, but certainly not as I know it.

Courchevel 1850 is the highest of the courchevel resorts and the most exclusive and as locations go, Chalet Aurea is as perfectly located as it's possible to be. Minutes from the main lift station of La Croisette and perfectly situated for enjoying the famous apres-ski that Courchevel 1850 offers. Courchevel luxury chalets are famous in the Alps and now I know why. With an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room as well as complimentary luxury spa products to hand, the basement alone at Aurea is reason to give the slopes a miss and stay indoors. The rest of the house is simply stunning with interior designed rooms that optimise the breath taking views of the Alps.

The whole thing is on another scale and that's before you've experienced the service. Two chalet hosts, a personal driver and private chef all work together to make sure your stay is as luxurious as possible. The chef will even design the meals to your tastes and help make special occasions as memorable as possible. Every evening you are served Laurent-Perrier Champagne and every morning the papers are delivered to your breakfast table. I usually associate this level of luxury with six star resorts in the South Pacific or Caribbean, and I must say the person who decided to give the Alps the same treatment was on to a good thing. Companies such as Alpine Answers, Ski in luxury, Oxford Ski and Scott Dunn all offer holidays that provide Aurea style Courchevel chalets. Luxurious accommodation is even more appreciated when the weather outside is chilly. Sitting with my hot chocolate looking out over the snow I don't have any desire to click my heals and return home. If only I could stay here forever...
