Try to agree on a destination, if possible. As the parent, you and your spouse should get together and come up with three locations that you feel are acceptable. Put rules in place before you even leave the house. For example, if you're traveling with your teenagers, you may decide that they cannot leave the hotel room past 10pm. Whatever rules you're considering, make sure everyone agrees on them before you leave your home.

Plan your activities as much as you can. That way, no one will be disappointed. If your daughter wants to go to a family beach hotel in Mallorca and your son wants to head to a city hotel, don't wait until you're on the vacation and they start arguing. Plan out as many activities as you can, so that there are no surprises.

Make sure everyone has something to do during downtime. If your kids like books, bring books. If they like video games, let them bring the games along. After all, there will be some times on the trip when everyone wants to take a breather. Make that possible by bringing things along that they like.

Next, make sure you have all the snacks that you need for your trip. Whether you are traveling by car or plane, somehow snacks make it all better. And if you're with the kids, you don't want to have to pay for a million snacks every time someone gets hungry. Therefore, make sure you have some snacks on hand during travel time.

Also, be sure that you have an emergency bag that has everyone's medications in it, as well as things you might need for informational purposes. Keep a small first aid kit in there as well, in case someone scrapes their skin or there is a small problem.

Remember to have fun. It can be hard to go on a trip with a lot of people, and it can seem as if it's even more work to keep everyone occupied than at home, but remember this: you're on vacation! Take a few minutes to just relax and remember that everyone is healthy and everyone is together.
