After being named one of the world's best boutique hotels and one of Travel + Leisure's Best Up-and-Coming Hotels of 2010, our expectations for the Algodon Mansion were, understandably, very high. Upon entering the 1912 belle époque mansion in Recoleta, however, it became clear the hotel's many accolades are all well deserved. Owned by New York's DPEC Partners and sister property to Mendoza's Algodon Wine Estates and Champions Club, Algodon Mansion officially opened in September 2010 after months of anticipation from travel buffs and professionals alike.

The hotel, which originally served as a private residence, has just 10 suites, allowing for a level of personalized service not available at other BA hotels. For example, each suite has a private butler available 24 hours a day. Designed by world-renowned architect and designer Gerhard Heusch, the Algodon Mansion exudes refined opulence. Ebony hardwood floors have been used throughout, a four-story waterfall cascades onto the glass ceiling of the lobby, and bathrooms are outfitted in French Limestone and equipped with Aquamass Senseaurielle bathtubs from Belgium that incorporate chromotherapy, aromatherapy, musicotherapy and water movement for an unparalleled bathing experience.

This sophisticated ambiance extends to the hotel's intimate 50-seat restaurant, Chez Nous, where guests are greeted by deep red walls, an undulating gold leaf ceiling, and plush banquettes. Executive Chef Antonio Soriano studied at Le Cordon Bleu and honed his skills at the Michelin-starred restaurants of the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris and Hôtel du Crillon before taking the helm at Chez Nous.

A French native who spent a large part of his childhood in Buenos Aires, Soriano and his team create seasonal menus of French-Argentine fusion cuisine that take diners on a gastronomic tour of Argentina and recall the "link between cultures that took place in the Buenos Aires of yesteryear." Ingredients are provided by the plantation at Algodon Wine Estates in Mendoza, ensuring unsurpassed quality and freshness, while the wine list features an impressive selection of splendid Argentine varietals.

The hotel's rooftop veranda, with teak deck, swimming pool and small bar, overlooks the stately mansions and tree-lined streets of Recoleta below. Just steps away from the veranda, the soon-to-open Le Spa, will offer an extensive treatment menu combining the latest European technology with native Argentine ingredients. One such treatment, Vine Therapy, is a relaxation technique that utilizes organic remedies from Algodon Wine Estates.

Despite being open for less than a year, Algodon Mansion runs like a well-oiled machine. The hotel and its staff manage to take guests back in time to the opulent Buenos Aires of the 1920s while providing service and amenities that are unsurpassed in the city. A chic oasis in Recoleta, Algodon has an atmosphere that engenders complete relaxation and indulgence. From Gotham With Love.
