Currently in the United Kingdom (UK), there are over 300 active universities participating inlearning programmes (UCAS 2013) with an approximate total number of 4.5m students(Keynote 2013). In total, London receives the largest number of student applications year onyear with the highest % increase. In 2nd: South East followed by North West (ManchesterUniversity) in 3rd. (Diagram below).

The above graph elucidates the demographics of studentapplicants not specific to London based universities butnationally. Predominantly, 19 year olds take up 10.5% ofapplications. This is due to students taking a gap year fortravel / resits of that nature and tend to reapply at a later age.Age group 30-39 have seen a loss in applications by 3.9%along with 40 year olds at a huge -7%. This is caused by therise in tuition and a general need to remain in full-time work. The largest origin of international students derives from theEU, followed by the far East and the Americas.
