Off the Grid We’re Off the Grid, using solar electricity, water distillation, herb dehydration and rainwater catchment systems. ELECTRICITY: Why do we use the sun for our electricity? It’s the responsible thing to do and the systems are sophisticated enough now to make it possible. Using public electricity means burning coal. Our lifestyles require more organization and conscious behaviors, in all aspects, which removes taking for granted many many things. WATER: We have a well which is tested regularly plus a UV purification is added to the process. For drinking water, we off Reverse Osmosis, Distilled water and filtered spring water from the holy mountain, Batu Karu. DEHYDRATING herbs: Our little solar dehydrator does the trick. CHEMICAL FREE: The whole retreat is chemical-free including the vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers and our anti-ant program. The garden crew refers to Thursdays as poopook day, when they collect the cow poop from neighboring farmers for fertilizer. Bali Silent Retreat is as self-contained, self reliant and totally sustainable as is possible. SOLAR ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT North Property Main lodge and wooden bungalows have LED lights powered by 15 KW of solar panels and battery bank with back up LPG generator.
