Guy de Maupassant in "La Vie errante", 1885, wrote: " if somebody might pass one day only in Sicily and asked: What should I visit? I would answer without hesitate: Taormina.
The architecture and artistic richness of Taormina originate from the numerous cultural influences that have characterized the city for centuries
Other interesting town to visit on Sicily is Taormina, called the “pearl of the Ionian Sea”Un alt oraş care merită văzut în Sicilia este Taormina, supranumit „Perla Mării Ionice”

Chiesa di Santa Caterina built in the early part of the 17th Century, is a Baroque church consecrated to St. Catherine of Alexandria d'Egitto. Although it was in ruins for four decades, one can still find well-preserved artifacts and designs of the time. The church was restored by the commune council and reopened for worship in 1977.

On Piazza Vittorio Emanuelle stands the Palazzo Corvaia, an architectural mixture of Arabian, Norman, and Catalonian-Gothic elements, and the church of Santa Caterina, with Roman remains in the background.
Palazzo Corvaja – The first part of this wonderful medieval palace was built by the Arabs during their period of rule. It was a cube-shaped tower that was used for defending the town. Later, Palazzo Crovaja, the seat of the Sicilian Parliament was added to the tower, that was extended over the years and after a period in which it was abandoned after the Second World War, the building was renovated and recovered, maintaining the characteristic mix of styles: Arabic (the tower), Norman (the fifteenth-century hall where the Parliamentary meeting were held), and Gothic (the shape of the façade windows)

In The Godfather one of the most celebrated lines is “Leave the gun, take the cannoli.” The line implies that even tough Sicilians who have just committed murder are not about to forget this famous dessert, originating in Sicily over 1000 years ago.
Cannoli is one of the most popular Italian dessert recipes. In Italy they are called Cannoli Siciliani. (I've seen American bakeries label them "cream horns") Cannoli is a tube-shaped shell of fried pastry dough that is filled with a sweet creamy filling usually containing ricotta cheese (or sweetened mascarpone) and blended with: vanilla, chocolate, pistachio, candied citrus peel, cherries, Marsala wine, rosewater (or other flavorings).

Carozza Siciliana
The Sicilian cart (or carretto Siciliano in Italian and carrettu Sicilianu in Sicilian or carretti (plural)) is an ornate, colorful style of horse or donkey-drawn cart tipical to the island of Sicily, in Italy. Carretto Siciliano, Painted carts of Sicily, introduced by the Greeks. Panel illustrations depicted the Crusades, chivalry and other important events in Catholic and European history.
