rides. Coaster enthusiasts strap themselves into

these scream machines simply

because they love being scared in a safe

environment.

What factors make a ride terrifying? Height, speed, inversions, backwards segments, unique track elements, darkness, and unexpected surprises all contribute to making your head spin and your knees tremble.

The following list is based upon the opinions of the author and not grounded in any scientific research. Coasters are ranked in reverse order, 50 to 1, with 1 being the most terrifying or extreme. Many roller coasters are “clones” or copies of the same ride. If two rides are very similar I’ve decided to only list one of them.
