Wearing a Helmet during Skiing
If you guys remembered your
childhood, rollerblades used to be
a really cool thing. You’d probably
race down the street with your
friends, laughing happily and
proud because you’re essentially
“cool”. Suddenly, you hear your
parents shouting at you for not
wearing a safety helmet. You
scornfully put the device on your
head while your friends tease at
you. Ultimately, the teasing stops
when the next day, you hear the
news of some poor kid having a terrible accident because he or she wasn’t wearing a helmet. At
that, you feel a big sigh of relief while feeling sorry for the kid who got hurt.
Now that we’re adults, rollerblading is now a thing of the past. Most people nowadays go skiing on
some fancy skii resort within a very cold and icy country. I’ve seen a lot of my old schoolmates check
the Internet like crazy for some best ski deals. However, safety experts are now criticizing people as
to why they are not using helmets during skiing. Some people believe that this concern isn’t that
important. However, you’d be surprised to know how a simple device can actually save lives. In
2011, the NHS reported that wearing a helmet during skiing, or even with snowboarding, can
effectively reduce head injuries within adults by 35% and 59% for children. While it does sound
beneficial, the fact that you have to carry a helmet around with you can be such a pain.
So here’s the biggest question. Is it really a must for people to wear a helmet during skiing?
I have mixed reactions about this post. First off, while it is indeed beneficial to wear a helmet during
the entire skiing adventure, don’t you think it’s a little over the top to actually wear protective
clothing when the ground is actually powdery snow? Also, the NHS have ruled out that the actual
risk of head injuries is quite low. Safety experts, however, said that in the right circumstances, an
ordinary fun-filled skii cheap ski holidays can turn into a nightmare!
Most helmets are only useful when
collisions occur during a low speed
of 15 MPH. But then, some skii
enthusiasts carelessly go beyond
that and travel at speeds which is
extremely dangerous. In the event
that there is a collission, people
who wore helmets during that
particular time will probably go
with a few injuries. Also, the
helmets offer heat and they are
made to give the user a higher
level of comfort. There are new
styles and designs available, so if
you want a helmet that looks really cool, then this should be one feature that’ll make you happy.
So now, what exactly should you do? Should you use a helmet when skiing down from the
mountains unto the ground? Or should you just ignore this and keep on skiing without any safety
gadget on? If I were you, I’d probably support and use those helmets, since it is better to be safe
than sorry! Besides, it wouldn’t hurt to have a helmet on your head for a change, right?
