About city
Yekaterinburg History began in a period of industrial development of the Urals in the early XVIII
century. That time at the Middle Urals which is rich for natural resources actively constructed iron
foundries, smelting and iron works, among which was the mansion Yekaterinburg plant was the
largest metallurgical enterprise in Russia those days and the control center of the mining industry of
the Urals and Siberia. From its first years Yekaterinburg has an important place in the country it
housed a mint, which provides treasury copper coins, and diamond cutting factory, manufactures
decorations and furnishings for the imperial court.

At the end of XVIII century the Urals had the new administrative
center it was Perm and Yekaterinburg became the chief town of
the province of Perm which remained until 1917. During the Soviet
Yekaterinburg again became the main center of the Urals and from
1924 to 1991 the city was renamed to Sverdlovsk. The Soviet
period had the most intensive development of city during the
industrialization. A mass industrial and residential construction
during World War II Sverdlovsk was the largest evacuation center
and during the Cold War it was one of the key centers of "defense." The early 1990s came with the crisis and the economics
of the city had to be reconstructed due to the new requirements.
Modern Yekaterinburg is one of the major centers at Russia by the
number of economic indicators it is second only to Moscow and

Ancient history City Pond Dam on the Iset River is the dam wish is located on the river Iset in Yekaterinburg. It was built in
1723 and later rebuilt many times. City residents affectionately call it "Plotinka." It is the traditional place of mass folk festivals and celebrations.
The dam was founded in 1723 through the efforts of two
prominent persons of that time - Tatischev and William de Gennin. The dam gave mechanical energy for activation of the newly founded Yekaterinburg’s factory and marked the beginning of city’s construction. In 1725 just above the dam was built in Yekaterinburg which in 1726 earned Upper Iset official Princes Anne iron plant. Next years it served as an auxiliary to the Ekaterinburg factory to adapt iron to its hammer mills and if necessary it gets down the water from Yekaterinburg larger Upper Iset pond.
In the same year founded
the Upper Uktussky iron- State Plant of Princes Elizabeth. As a result, Yekaterinburg appears in the center of an entire system of closely spaced plants and in the "heart of the Urals mountain." By the beginning of XX century, these plants with their populations have grown together with Yekaterinburg.

Views to the waterfront in the city
Mansion Rastorguevykh - Kharitonovykh is one of the most valuable
architectural places and park areas in Yekaterinburg. It is architectural monument of federal importance. The construction was started at 1794-95. Completed at 1824. In the middle of the XIX century at the mansion’s territory was laid out the garden.
House of Sevastyanov in
Yekaterinburg (also known as the House of Trade Unions) is the palace which was built in the first quarter of the XIX century on the bank of the city pond formed by a dam on the river Iset. One of the attractions of the Yekaterinburg architecture which stands out among the mansions of the city.
Church on Blood in Honor of
All Saints Resplendent in the Russian Land is one of the largest Orthodox churches in Russia. The temple was built in 2000- 2003 near the place where at the night from 16 to 17 July 1918 was executed the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and his family. .
Central Stadium was built in 1957 on the site of the stadium "Metallurg East“ which in turn was built on the site of
the velodrome (open September 3th, 1900), is a major sporting place. Capacity of 27,000 spectators.
Sporting places "Uralets" is cultural and entertainment center. Also known
as the Ice Palace of Sports. Formerly called the Palace of Sports. Built in 1972. Area of 20,000 square meters, can accommodate 4,000 spectators, when placed in the arena - 7000. Renovated in 2006. Number of seats - 5570.
Sport palace "Uralochka" is the sport complex located in the center of Yekaterinburg, near the metro station "Dinamo". Capacity of the main arena is 5,000 spectators. 8

Municipal Theater Ballet "The Nutcracker" - Children's Theatre Ballet,
established in Sverdlovsk in 1988. Head is the teacher and choreographer Mikhail Kogan.

Misharin summer of 2010 was initiated by the question of unification of Yekaterinburg and its four satellite cities of the first belt agglomeration in one municipality, Borough Big Yekaterinburg, which would have made the third largest city in Russia. However, realization of ideas postponed due to a negative conclusion on this proposal to all municipalities except
Yekaterinburg.
Skyscraper “Vysotsky” was officially opened on 25
November 2011, by the standards of the U.S. and Europe, is the most northern skyscraper in the world, and the only one skyscraper Russia outside Moscow.
