Establishing an environment conducive to learning is a critical aspect of starting a training session off on the right foot. You can ensure that

participants walk in to a relaxed atmosphere and an environment that is welcoming and ready. The room says you took the time to get ready for them. The following are guidelines as to how you can enforce quality

standards in your training room.

1. The training room should be well arranged to maximize trainer student interaction. As a general guideline, assuming a rectangular room, the screen should always be on the long side of the training room.

2. Space between seats should be left to allow the trainer to access the participants.

3. It should be in a place where there is minimal or no noise while the training is going on.

4. All the training room equipment facilities i.e. The venue, flipchart, screen, projector and pens must be confirmed at least two days before the training.

5. The training room must have a clock that should be in the line of sight of the trainer. It should not be behind the trainer, above the screen, or directly in the line of sight of the participants.

6. The training room should be well ventilated. Not too chilly and not too hot. In case there are extremes in temperature and weather conditions there should be an air con in the training room.

7. Effective and efficient window blinds that can easily be adjusted.

8. Adequate power outlets. The trainer should have a PC power socket close by that doesn’t require stretching a power cable across walking space.

9. The projector screen should be bright and clear enough so that all participants can be able to see the slides.

10. The room should have no internal windows through to a corridor or similar as this will be a distraction to the participants.

11. Should have good acoustics and sound proofing. The training should be free from sound interference. If possible sound proofed rooms are encouraged.

12. Clear instructions must be given to the trainer regarding the training room. Enough information/pictures should be availed so that the trainer can see whether the training room will be conducive enough for the nature of the content they intend to cover.

13. Adequate security. In case participants leave their laptops and other materials during breaks and lunches, there should be a structure to ensure that nothing is taken from the room or damaged.

14. Catering – Matters pertaining to catering must be planned beforehand to avoid any inconveniences.
