Follow our process. Cross out any prepositional phrases, label the subject with a “S”, and then label the type of verb (Action (AV), linking (LV), or verb phrase (VP).

The boldfaced words help tell the story of a man who is given another chance. Figure out the meaning of the word by using the context clues in each of the phrases.

Ms. West will act out the vocabulary as we read through them as a class.

With your elbow partner, think of one or two individuals who could have used a second chance. Perhaps it’s a coach who had a losing season. Maybe it’s someone who betrayed a friend’s secret. What criteria could be used to determine whether that person deserves a second chance?
