Hunting Nature’s FuryA Storm Chaser’s Obsession with Tornadoes, Hurricanes, and Other Natural DisastersRogeR Hill witH PeteR BRoNskiEach year, at least 1,200 tornadoes batter the United States. While most occur in Tornado Alley—a vast, weather-beaten swath of middle America—in truth, tornadoes can occur almost anywhere. And where there are tornadoes, there are storm chasers. They come in all shapes and sizes, from hobbyists to researchers to professional chasers. There is one, however, who stands well above the rest: Roger Hill.
Hunting Nature’s Fury tells the story of Roger Hill and his love affair with storm chasing, taking you on a suspenseful and dramatic ride across the Great Plains, into the Deep South, even into the eyes of such recent hurricanes as Katrina. You’ll accompany Hill as he braves close calls, makes history, and gains insight into the science of severe weather. This is a story of a storm chaser obsessed with the storms that almost killed him; of resiliency in the face of disaster; and of humility in the presence of the awesome power of nature.
Includes eight color pages of jaw-dropping photos taken by Hill showing many of the storms chronicled in the book.
Roger Hill has witnessed some 400 tornadoes and hurricanes in his lifetime and has captured them on film for every major TV network, plus National Geographic, The Weather Channel, The Discovery Chan-nel, and The Learning Channel. He is co-owner of Silver Lining Tours, America’s leading storm-chasing tour company.

walking Vancouver36 Walking Tours Exploring Spectacular Waterfront, Dynamic Neighborhoods, Hip Hangouts, and Tasty DiversionsJoHN leeThere’s no better way to explore one of the world’s most livable cities than on foot. Walking Vancouver shows you Vancouver, British Columbia as you’ve never seen it before, whether you’re a die-hard local or a first-time visitor. Site of the 2010 Winter Olympics, the city is already renown for its diverse neighborhoods, easily accessible sites, and “clean and green” image. With this book you’ll explore neighborhoods such as Chinatown, Kitsilano, and the West End, accompanied by the amusing and savvy descrip-tions from the author, a Vancouver insider.
The 36 anecdote-packed, easy-to-follow ambles include Stanley Park’s hidden sites; University of British Colum-bia’s unexpected attractions; SoMa’s hipster boutiques; Granville Island’s artisan pit stops; and the historic mansions of old-school Shaughnessy Heights. There’s a perfect pub crawl in Gastown; lively farther afield strolls in Steveston, New Westminster and the North Shore; and even an eye-opening, must-do tour around the Downtown Eastside. You’ll uncover the colorful stories behind street names, character buildings, and eye-catching public art.
This highly portable guide features detailed maps for each trip, original photos, and parking/transit information for every trip. Route summaries make each walk easy to follow, and a “Points of Interest” section summarizes each walk’s highlights.
John Lee is an adopted Vancouverite and full-time freelance travel writer whose writing has appeared in more than 125 newspapers and magazines. He’s authored 14 guidebooks for Lonely Planet, including British Columbia and Vancouver City Guide.

The book also features dozens of mountain ridge hikes and garden strolls, as well as beachcombing and all the island’s best snorkel-ing spots. the wine-oh! guide to california’s sierra FoothillsFrom the Ordinary to the Extraordinary
Featuring Wineries in Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne Counties
keN & DAHlyNN MckoweNThere’s gold in California’s Sierra foothills, and it runs red, pink, and white—wine! For wine aficionados, history lovers, and curious travel-ers, this book is an entertaining companion to one of California’s most intriguing wine areas. Although less well known than the Napa and Sonoma wine regions, the roots of wine growing here in these higher elevations run deep-as far back as the 1850s, when the first vineyards were planted to satisfy the thirst of the 49ers.
Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or are just starting out, the Wine-Oh! Guide is the best resource for wineries big and small and everything in between. It describes more than 100 wineries in help-ful detail, and includes side trips to notable attractions in the area, including historic Gold Rush towns and Mother Lode sites.

trinity Alps & VicinityIncluding Whiskeytown, Russian Wilderness, and Castle Crags AreasMike wHiteThe Trinity Alps mountain range in the northwest corner of Cali-fornia form a rugged and little-explored divide, tucked between the Coast Ranges and the Cascades. The half-million acres of wilderness contain high waterfalls, glaciated granite peaks, sparkling lakes, and cool, deep forests. They also have another increasingly scarce attri-bute: relatively few visitors.
The fifth edition of this classic hiking guide, in print for more than 25 years, has been completely revamped and now covers not only trails and cross-country routes in the Alps but in nearby recreation lands. It contains descriptions of 48 of the best day hikes and back-pack trips, and has all-new maps and elevation profiles for each hike.
Author Mike White has written and contributed to a number of guidebooks for Wilderness Press, including Top Trails Lake Tahoe, Top Trails Sequoia & Kings Canyon, Backpacking California, Sierra South, Sierra North, and Backpacking Nevada.
