Word Layout Overview

• Introduced in NAV 2015

•Based on Word document (.docx file type) that acts as a template for viewing and printing reports from Dynamics NAV.

•Designed for documents style type reports

RDLC Layout Overview

•Based on client report definition layouts (.rdlc or .rdl file types).

•Created and modified by using SQL Server Report Builder or Visual Studio

•Designing RDLC layouts is more advanced than Word layouts

• Images and Graphs; the ability to toggle columns to hide or show data; interactively sorting

Word vs RDLC Report Layout

•Word report layouts are typically easier to create and modify because you can use Word.

•RDLC report layouts are modified by using SQL Server Report builder, or Visual Studio which targets more advanced users.

Standard Word Layouts

• Currently in NAV 2018, there are 7 NAV report objects with built-in Word layouts

• 1303 – Standard Sales – Draft Invoice• 1304 – Standard Sales – Quote• 1305 – Standard Sales – Order Conf.• 1306 – Standard Sales – Invoice• 1307 – Standard Sales – Credit Memo• 1316 – Standard Statement• 1322 – Standard Purchase - Order

Edit Existing word layout(Demo)• Go to the Custom Report Layouts Page

• select New and select the word layout checkbox

• A new record will be created with the built-in layout of the report as the base

• Select Edit Layout and Word will open• Select the Developer Tab and then XML Mapping Pane• In the Custom XML Part you will find an option with the report name

and ID• Here you see all the fields in the dataset which can be added to the

layout

Create new word layout from template (Demo)

•Save Word Template and Import layout

•Mapping Fields

•Line Repeater

Adding / modifying Dataset (Demo)

•Add New Fields (Customer Phone Number)

•Field Formatting (Date format)

•Conditional printing of data has to be done within Dataset
