Sacrament of Baptism The Christian Community joyously welcomes new members to our parish of all ages. Parents who wish the Sacrament of Baptism for their children are reminded of the required instructions for this Sacrament. Instructions are held on the Second and Fourth Sunday of each month in the Father Barrett Center. Saint Luke’s celebrates Baptism within the Liturgy on the First Saturday of the month at the evening 4:30 pm Liturgy, and again during the 11:00 am Liturgy on the third Sunday of the month. Please call the office to make arrangements.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READ-INGS His Word Today by Rev. William J. Reilly
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 7, 2016 “Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heav-en, that no thief nor moth can destroy… Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” Think for a moment of the many times in the scriptures it says not to be afraid. We find this advice in the Old Testament. We hear these words again when Gabriel spoke to Mary, Joseph was advised in a dream, and when Peter and his friends were adrift on the sea. Fear is a very human emotion and response. I can ask myself of what I am afraid? A child might be afraid of the dark. An adult fears losing his job, family problems or poor health. Many fear death. Jesus offers a remedy we can follow, if we are one with Him. In the long run, we need only be afraid of losing God’s friendship, and each person has the pow-er to make sure that does not happen. Peter asked to whom the parable was directed. I know the answer.

Our American Elm Lately there has been a lot of attention regarding the
American Elm Tree that stands prominently outside of The Church of Saint Luke. We keep hearing the question,
Just how old is this tree? We have found a formula to help answer this very
question.
Circumference of Elm Tree 41/2’ (118”) 118 ÷ 3.14 x 4 = 150.32 years old
