At the crossroads of social innovation and technological innovation, AADN sets itself up as an association working for the development of digital arts and cultures.
Some artists create sensitive and singular works verging on magic and awe. They are true explorers who deal with processes they thoroughly think through, make up and distort : this is precisely where this most contemporary approach to creation highlights technological innovation. While exploring and creating, these artists express a poetic care as an ability to describe this ever-changing world that is in the vortex of its transition to digital technology. AADN is all about this creative ferment.
Thinking back about 10 years ago when AADN emerged here in Lyon, the term « digital arts » was exclusive rather than inclusive. We took possession of an empty place, a brownfield site providing a creative environment and opening up the scope of possibilities… There, we came up with what we were aiming to do : • Make, share and show an emergent and sharp art which arises from technology that reveals and enhances it in return ;• Experiment, pass on and question what an « augmented » citizen entails in order to anticipate our life tomorrow in our « smart cities » and share a new way of being together.
In cooperation we trust and through cooperation we have developed.Ever since we have refined our craft and expertise, striving to honor our commitments to high artistic standards, social and economic support initiatives and popular educational initiatives at once.
Among the challenges we met and the utopias we made come true over the past decade, we can’t help but wish and imagine together with you all the best for the next ten years.
Pierre Amoudruz AADN Artistic Director
AADN has been active in the digital arts sector for the past ten years in Lyon and its Rhône-Alpes region.
From on-the-ground initiatives to theoretical analysis, back and forth, AADN builds bridges between art, technology and the society we live in as it ponders over digital technology and sizes up how the latter interacts with both people and the city.
• CREATION HUB : beyond spotting talent and hosting artists in residence, AADN also supports the development of artistic projects it may produce, programs and distributes works as well.
• PASSING ON PRACTICES (SHARING HUB) : not only does AADN coordinate and carry out cultural projects over territories, it also explores creative digital practices as a genuine laboratory.
• PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING HUB : when AADN facilitates meetings, stimulates professional networks and opens up forums for reflection, it is committed to social, cultural, educational, scientific and economic initiatives at the same time..

HOSTING CREATIONSFROM ALL OVER FRANCE
IN A SEASON OF RESIDENCES
VIDEOPHONIC RESIDENCES Host / Experiment / Display
Transdisciplinary projects feature prominently in VIDEOPHONIC, which is a support process intended for artists in residence. Artists exploring new « writing systems » via both cross-curricular and technological design and style are hosted and then mentored in the light of what is genuinely singular and innovative in each creation. Through
VIDEOPHONIC and its cyclic residency function, experimentation, public and territory are interconnected. AADN has coordinated this national outreach process since 2008, in a whole network thanks to six partner structures with respective expertise in culture, popular education, innovation or scientific literacy.
VIDEOPHONIC, in short... • an annual national call for projects ;• public events to discover the latest developments of an art
unfolding and creating ;• more than 60 artists and 35 creations up to now.
OUR OBJECTIVE : TO PROVIDE ARTISTS WITH THE MEANS TO CREATE AND EXPERIMENT
here is a sample list of projects in residence :- Holy Vj#Digression n°1 : an augmented skateboarding performance - 2015 (FR) - Dromos : an immersive audio-visual performance - 2014 (QC)- La ferme à spiruline (Spirulina farm) : a green art workshop to create a spirulina bioreactor as a both vegetal and digital installation - 2014 (FR)- Disorder : a video performance somewhere between generative (choreo)graphics and flutuating algorythms - 2012 (CH)- Discrepances : an audio-visual oneiric experience in alternate reality - 2012 (FR)

Through its SHARING HUB, AADN works to encourage people to become familiar with creative technological practices : to this end, it provides a range of workshops for people to get introduced and/or trained to them. By doing so, AADN enhances shared knowledge and global interaction in order to fathom digital practices from a
civic and expressive point of view.AADN has built a « USAGE LAB » up, where it incubates a mentoring network of artists, inhabitants, researchers and scientists over the long haul. Together, they distort, explore and update the use of new technologies thanks to artistic creations in which each and every one takes part.

ENHANCINGDIGITAL
CULTURES
AADN also « performs » through its PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING HUB as it provides advice, informal training and organizes professional meetings, thus gambling on the competence of its fellow partners increasing over time. In the same vein, networking impels our professional sector to address creative and digital technologies
issues along with players of related fields of expertise (innovation, social sciences, education, etc.). In this capacity, AADN is committed to local, regional and national networks such as Internum (http://internum.fr/), which is all about matching digital arts and cultures issues with a digital yet human-scaled society.
PROFESSIONAL NETWORKS Advise / Develop / Share
OUR OBJECTIVE : TO HELP GALVANIZE AND STRUCTURE OUR PROFESSIONAL SECTOR
THE PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING HUB, in short...• conferences on digital arts and cultures issues ;• works and talks as an expert together with students and future
professionals from various fields of culture ; • studies on professional training needs for artists and technicians
for instance ; • the creation of RADart, consisting in professional meetings of
both arts and technologies mixing up ; • the co-organization of the Mirage Open Creative Forum, as a
« tech-tank » of the Mirage Festival in Lyon where art, innovation and digital cultures meet (www.miragefestival.com).

The Lab.Lab refers to a digital experimentation factory that AADN has occupied along with two other entities (the BK and Theoriz studios) since it opened in April 2014.
The Lab.Lab is a 150-square-metre space that is located in the extension of the Pixel Hub in Villeurbanne. These premises dedicated to digital artists cover an operative area at the crossroads of fablab and creative studio.
Since 2015 the Lab.Lab has been accessible to artists, organizations and companies working in digital arts or technological innovations.
Beyond a common area for research, creation, experimentation, fabrication and rehearsal, the Lab.Lab is first and foremost a laboratory within which true « cultures » of ongoing projects and development stages related to digital arts and technological innovation grow.

here are some examples of what the lab.lab has incubated up to now :
• “Spirulina Farm” open workshop : As part of one of our VIDEOPHONIC residences, the two artists hosted (Art-Act) brought together « Mister Fix-It » persons, aquarists and mappers for four days in order to create a spirulina bioreactor as a both vegetal and digital installation.
• “Lyon, Terre aux Lumières” :Once the BK and Theoriz studios won the call for projects consisting in spreading their art over the Place des Terreaux in Lyon for its annual Light Festival, they took over the Lab.Lab’s range of possibilities for a year and came up with a video mapping show in December 2014.
• “Are you my friend ?” : Following an order placed by the Contemporary Art Biennal in Lyon linked with the annual robotics meetings, the Theoriz studio along with the L.I.E arts company created an interactive robotic installation, exploring the relationships between humankind and conscious robots.
