Arsonist strikes American flagsPolice in Roselle Park are inves-

tigating three separate incidents ofarson in which the American ilagwas burned.

There were two instancesbetween the night of July 2 and themorning of July 3 on the 300 blockof East Lincoln Avenue and the 10Block of West Colfax Avenue.

Another Hag was burned on July11 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. onthe 300 block of Chestnut Street.

Rahway• At 11 p.m. on July 5, a theft

was reported on Route 1.• At 5 p.m. on July 6, a theft on

Woodbridgo Road was reported.• In the early hours of July 7, a

theft was reported on Route 1. Thesuspect is described as being ablack male about six feet tall. 50years old and wearing all black.

• In the early morning of July 9,a theft was reported on West MainStreet.

• At 9:50 p.m. on July 9, a rob-bery was reported on CentralAvenue.

Roselle• Ira Armour of Roselle, 55, was

arrested at S: 15 p.m. on July 6 forpossession of stolen property fol-lowing a two-week investigationfor a robbery on Centennial Avenuein Cranford. Cranford police arrest-ed Armour outside his Roselle resi-dence. He was charged with receiv-ing stolen property for holding andselling products of the burglary andis being held at Union County Jailin lieu of bail. Armour was alsodetained on outstanding warrantsfrom lrvington, Hillside, Wood-bridge and South Orange.

• Evoke Ogbevire, 33, ofRoselle was arrested on July 8 foroutstanding traffic warrants fromRoselle and Union when he pre-sented himself for transport toUnion County Jail on an unrelatedmatter.

• On the early morning of July 9.police pulled over a 1999 BMW onWalnut Avenue containing KevinMarques, IK, Jeremy Pereira, 20,and a juvenile male, 15. all fromNewark, for not having a rearlicense plate. Following an investi-gation on the scene, the officer onthe scene found two sandwich Iof alleged marijuana, police said,All three were arrested, with Mar-ques all 0 being charged withimproper display of license plate.

• At 4 p.m. on June 23, policearrested Ramell Green, 20, ofQueens, NY for credit card fraud.He was released on his own recog-nizance pending a court date.

• On Raritan Road after midnighton June 25, police arrested DanielLammie, 21, of Edison for posses-sion of CDS, hypodermic needlesand narcotics paraphernalia, accord-

ing to police officials. Also arrestedwere Robert Kraynak, 18, andDavid Sung, 19, both of Edison, forpossession of a hypodermic needle.

• Near the Garden State Park-wax on the night of June 26, policearrested Gabriella Reyna-Romero,20, of" Rahway for possession ofCDS and underage drinking.

Summit• Police arrested Laycee E. Will-

hide, 23, of Summit on June 30, athis residence for contempt of court.

• David Daries, 48, of Summitwas arrested on June 30 at his resi-dence for two counts of 2nd degreetheft of payment.

• At 4:0S p.m.on July 1. policearrested Michael A. Sullivan ofChatham for possession of 50grams or less of marijuana.

• Peter T. Halasz Jr.. 24, of Sum-mit was arrested on Morris Avenueon July 1, for possession of hypo-dermic needle or syringe withintent to use or sell, furnish or giveto an> person.

• On the morning of July 2,police received a report of a theftfrom vehicle while it was parked ona Canoe Brook Farkwa> residence.A Garmin GPS valued at S400 wasreported missing.

• Police arrested Kelsey Q.Sanezyk, 18, of New Providence atPark Avenue in the early morningof July 3 for driving while intoxi-cated, having an open container ofalcoholic beverage in motor vehicleand careless driving.

• At 7 p.m. on July 4, policereceived a report of theft from vehi-cle while it was parked at an EdgarStreet residence on July 1. Report-ed missing is a Garmin GPS valuedat S300.

Union on lookoutfor 'grave robber'

Kenilworth Police Chief Kenneth Grady announced that Kenil-worth detectives are investigating a robber}' that occurred on July 10at about 7 p.m. at a cemetery located near the Garden State Parkwayin Kenihvorth.

"The robbery happened when a Pennsylvania woman in her 60swas visiting a gravesite at a local cemetery and was approached frombehind by an unknown male." said Grady. "As she had her back tothe subject, he shoved her and began to grab her purse and then hestruck her in the back of the head with an unknown object, knockingher to the ground and taking the purse away.

"The suspect fled on foot to a nearby vehicle and proceeded toflee the cemetery," he continued. "During the flight of the vehicle, itwas damaged by striking a concrete wall and began to leak fluids,which were trailed to the Parkway north entrance."

Proceeds from the theft were an undetermined amount of cash,credit cards, and personal belongings.

The woman then called 9-1-1 to report the crime, according topolice officials, in which Kenilworth patrol officers responded. Thewoman was slightly injured and officers administered first aid. Shethen denied, any further medical attention. She was taken to Kenil-worth Police Headquarters for further investigation by detectives.

The male was described as being a tall, thinly built, with closecropped, dark hair, in his 20s to 30s, and of African-Americandescent. He lied in a dark-colored small sedan vehicle.

"It is unfortunate and appalling that this would happen to anyone,never mind at a place where this woman was paying respects, Gradysaid. "You need to be aware of your surroundings at all times."

Detectives are in\estimating several leads and are interviewingwitnesses. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed anysimilar vehicles on the Garden State Parkway northbound during thistime frame that may have been experiencing mechanical problems orbeing operated reeklessly are urged to contact the Kenihvorth PoliceDetective Bureau at 908-276-1700. All calls will be strictly confi-dential, police said.
