Arthropods VocabularyGanglion – collection of nerve cells

Malpighian tubules – extract wastes from blood and adds them to feces that move through the gut.

Chelicerae – fangs on the spider used to stab and paralyze prey.

Arthropods VocabularyPedipalps (palps) – second pair of

appendages of arachnids (spiders) that are near the mouth used as sensory such as smell/taste and grab prey.

Arthropods VocabularyBook lungs – a type of

respiratory organ in spiders and scorpions; they are deep pockets on the lots of folds that are moist; blood passing through them picks up oxygen from the surrounding air.

Arthropods VocabularyTracheal tubes (tracheae) – tiny tubes that carry air

(oxygen) directly to cells in some land arthropods; respiratory gases are exchanged across these tubes by diffusion.
