• Certification information is on the ECBOE District Website-Teachers’ Corner and Certification.

1. 3 full years of full-time educational experience and 50 clock hours of allowable professional development.

2. 3 full years of full-time educational experience and 3 semester hours of allowable credit.

3. 3 semester hours of allowable credit and 50 clock hours of allowable professional development.

4. 6 semester hours of allowable credit; OR5. Initial issuance of National Board for

Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification.

6. 100 clock hours of allowable professional development.

• 5 Professional Learning Units-PLUs• Of the required 5 PLUs, at least 2 PLUs MUST be

earned through ACLD-Approved Professional Studies.• Graduate Credit substituted for a locally-approved PLU

shall be:• Coursework that has been approved by the ALSDE

• Superintendent must approve graduate credit as a substitute for a locally-approved PLU.

• Limited to course credit in which a grade of B or above has been earned.

• Verified on official transcript(s).

• Renewal of a Professional Leadership Certificate in an area of administration and/or supervision will also meet requirements to renew a Professional Educator Certificate in an area other than administration and/or supervision

• Renewal of a Professional Educator Certificate in an area other than administration and/or supervision will not meet requirements to renewal a professional Leadership Certificate in an area of administration and/or supervision

• All continuation requirements must be met during the valid period of the certificate. (July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2020.)

• Professional development must be related to educational advancement in the classroom or area of instructional support.

Acceptable hours for the following are allowable per five year period if registered and approved in Chalkable PD or document with a certificate verifying dates, clock hours, title of activity, and signature of presenter. If clock hours are added by participant, please attach agenda verifying hours. If date or hours are changed, presenter will need to initial changes.

• CPR training-5 clock hours • Alabama Ethics Law Training- 1 clock hour• Educate Alabama-2 clock hours• Child Abuse Mandated Reporters Training-1 clock

hour• Student teacher supervision/cooperation may use

10 clock hours per five year certificate renewal period if verified with a certificate from the university or Chalkable PD Training History.

• Coaching clinics-Physical Education certification only

• Data meetings, in-service, faculty meetings, retreats, PTSO meetings, RtI Problem Solving Team meetings, etc., are not acceptable unless there were specific training or workshops that were documented in Chalkable PD or with a certificate verifying clock hours and signed by the instructor.

• Professional development activities must include the specific title, date and number of clock hours. Activities with generic titles such as “grade level meeting, institute, clinic or professional development are not specific titles of professional development activities. Activities with titles of this sort will not be accepted.

• Self-taught professional development will not be accepted unless it is verified with a certificate listing the course title, date(s), number of clock hours, and signature of the instructor. The system will determine if the self-taught professional development is acceptable according to state guidelines.

• Professional development credit may not be awarded for teachers who supervise practicum students.

• Observation of another teacher.

• The ALSDE is transitioning to a new PD Program-PowerSchool.

• Chalkable PD will be turned off permanently on September 20th.

• The PowerSchool portion that is replacing Chalkable PD will go live October 1st.

• Chalkable PD training histories for individuals will be carried over to the new system for the last 6 years of data only.

• Please print a copy of your training history before September 20th.

• No access to PD information from September 20th-September 31.

ENTERING PD IN TRAINING HISTORY PD ACTIVITIES YOU REGISTERED FOR IN CHALKABLE PD

• Professional development entered by the teacher in their Chalkable PD history must be verified with a certificate that includes the specific professional development activity, the date or dates, the number of clock hours, and signature of presenter. If clock hours are added by participant, please attach agenda verifying hours. If date or hours are changed, presenter will need to initial changes.

• A brief explanation of the workshop should be written in the “Notes” section of the Chalkable PD. Write the complete title of the workshop-no acronyms please.

• Copies of certificates for professional development entered by the teacher must be attached to the Chalkable PD training history printout.

• Professional development activities you register for on Chalkable PD will automatically be added to your professional development history. The completion date of the activity will be checked in Chalkable PD once credit is awarded for the activity. A certificate is not required for activities you register for in Chalkable PD. Your Chalkable PD training history will serve as documentation.

Click on “My Training History” and complete all session evaluations.

After you complete the session evaluation, clock hours will be list on your training history.

• When printing the Chalkable PD training history for certificate renewal, your printout should include your name, last four digits of your Social Security number and the valid certificate renewal period dates. The printout cannot be accepted if this information is not included.

• Certificate valid period-July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2020.

• Please refer to instructions on How to Print Your Professional Development Training History.

Dates of renewal periodmust be listed in the topright corner of the

Chalkable PD training history printout.

Name & last 4 digits of SS# must be listed in the top left corner of the Chalkable PD training history printout.

• College credit that was applied toward the issuance of a certificate cannot be applied toward its renewal.

• If you are using a college credit, you must request the university send an official hardcopy or email an electronic transcript to:

• Renewed certificate will be issued in the name on file at the SDE.

• Name must be changed before printing Chalkable PD.

• Chalkable PD and name on file at SDE must be the same.

• Contact Gina Rich for name change.

• All applicants must complete the 2 page Declaration of Citizenship or National Status of Applicant for Educator Certification.

• Proof of United States Citizenship will be demonstrated by submitting a legible photocopy of your driver’s license.

Step 1-Principal submits Certificate Renewal Packet to the Central Office by January 31, 2020

Step 2-Professional Development is reviewed to verify it meets the

Alabama Standards for Professional Development

Step 3-Certificate Renewal Documents will be upload to the

ALSDE Portal.

Step 4-Employee will receive an email from Teacher Education and Certificate Hub (TEACH).

Click on link provide in email to pay online certificate fee.

Step 5-Employee will receive an email from Teacher Education

and Certificate Hub (TEACH) with a link to print a copy of their

certificate. The ECBOE will receive the same email. Print a copy of your certificate for your records

• Payment must be made by June 30th. If payment is not received by June 30th, you will go through certificate reinstatement.

• Principals will submit all certificate renewals to the Central office by January 31, 2020. The online process may not be completed until April or May because your professional development must be verified and the experience form completed by the LEA. You will be contacted via email by Gina Rich once your renewal is processed so you can complete your certificate renewal.

• The application and fee must be received in the Teacher Certification Office by June 30 of the year of expiration.
