T oday we begin our journey into Holy Week. Together we celebrate Palm Sunday. Today in the Gospel of Luke we hear the story of our Lord’s Passion. What began as a triumphal entry into Jerusalem will
eventually end sadly with Jesus’ crucifixion and death. The story for Christians though isn’t just about a violent end to a good man. It is the story of a God who loves us so much that he wanted to come to us and be with us and in the end save us. This is the story we will celebrate throughout this Holy Week. This is our story of faith. I encourage you to join us for all our Holy Week celebrations. Our Holy week story really ends with a new begin-ning on Easter. So please join us as well next weekend for the Easter celebration. On Holy Thursday we begin the Easter Triduum which includes Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Saturday. The Holy Thursday celebration of the Lord’s supper begins at 7:00 PM and is followed by adoration in the day chapel until 10:00 PM. On Good Friday we will have the Passion, Veneration of the Cross and com-munion at 3:00 PM. At 7:00 PM we will have Stations of the Cross. On Holy Saturday there will be basket blessings in the Gym at 1:00PM. The Easter Vigil begins at 8:00 PM on Holy Saturday. At
the vigil celebration we bless the new light repre the vigil celebration we bless the new light repre-sented by the Easter candle. We also bless the water to be used for baptism in the year ahead. The Easter celebration is a celebration of new life and our mass schedule on Easter Sunday is an 8:00 and a 10:00 AM. Please join us and make plans for your family and friends to join us as well. As I wrote last week, work was completed early on the new St. Kieran sign on Halsted and I have been receiving rave reviews so far. We hope to publicize upcoming parish events on the sign. Last week we also worked on an outside light project for the church building as well. You may not notice the effect until next fall when the nights are long again, or you must come by late at night when it is dark. Thanks again to all who have donated to these projects. We hope you all will join us for the St. Kieran Pasta Dinner on April 28th in Crawford Hall. Bill Barker, The Knights of Columbus, the St. Kieran Women’s club and a bunch of volunteers are ready to welcome you to our version of “little Italy”. The menu and company are always superb, and all proceeds help the parish and the Knights. Mark your calendars and we will see you then. Finally, Fr. O’Mara, Fr. Tom, Deacon Dave and Emil and I would like to wish all of you a joyous Easter celebration and Easter season.
