ASH WEDNESDAY AT CENTRALFor Christians, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. This is a time when many Christiansprepare for Easter by observing times of fasting, repentance, and spiritual discipline.
This year Ash Wednesday falls on February 13th. At Central, you'll have the opportunity to come together as achurch family and begin this journey of spiritual renewal with others on a "Lenten Walk of Silence".The events will begin with dinner in the 11th Street Gym at 5:00. We will then move to the Sanctuary at 5:45. Aftera brief explanation and instructions, the Walk of Silence will begin at 6:00. Everything will take place on the 2ndfloor [the Crossing and the Sanctuary].
During this time of reflection, you can experience 8 "stations" that will offer such things as the Imposition of Ashes [a sign of repentance used in Lent], Holy Communion, and a Labyrinth Walk in the Fellowship Hall. TheWalk will be done in silence, and the only one we will speak to is God. Through the quietness, it is our hope thatyou will see, feel, hear, taste, and even smell God's presence near us. All of this will last approximately one hour.
We invite you to join us for the Walk of Silence on Ash Wednesday. Come and bring your best gift - yourself - asan offering to God.

2013 BUDGET NEWSOn Monday January 28th, the Administrative Council met for the first time in 2013. The primary item of business was theapproval of a budget. After discussion, the Administrative Council approved a budget of $1,611,809 for 2013.
During the fall, the Finance Committee had recommended and the Administrative Council approved a tentative budgetof $1,648,539, slightly higher than the 2012 budget. However, due to the fact that financial pledges for 2013 were lowerthan projected [by some $125,000], the Administrative Council approved a budget at the same amount as the 2012budget.
During the next few months, our Finance Committee will monitor the money being received by Central. We are optimisticthat with the arrival of the new year, our members and friends will continue to be generous in their support of vital ministryhere.
