Safety Management System is a business like approach to safety. It is a systematic, explicit and comprehensive process for managing safety risk.

As with all management systems, a safety management system provides for goal settings, planning, and measuring performance.

A safety management system is woven into the fabric of an organization. It becomes part of the culture, the way people do their jobs.

Philosophy

Safety management starts with management Philosophy:

• Recognize that there will always be threats to safety

• Setting the organizations standards

• Confirming that safety is everyone’s responsibility

Specifying how Safety will be achieved

• Clear statements of responsibility, authority and accountability

•Development of organizational processes and structures to incorporate safety goals into every aspect of the operation

•Development of the SKILLS and knowledge necessary to do the job
