▪ The Pilgrim’s garments followed the general fashions of the English Court.▪ During the winter the Pilgrims and Puritans wore shawls and boots.▪ The New England colonists were judged how wealthy they were by their wigs.
▪ Modern men wear denim jeans and T-shirts.▪ During the winter modern men wear heavy insulated coatsand boots. ▪ Today men’s hair doesn’t judge how wealthy we are.

▪ The women’s clothing consisted of underpants, stockings, petticoat, chemise, bolster, bodice, skirt, apron, outer gown, and shoes.
▪ Women’s clothing today consists of denim jeans, a T-shirt or blouse, a cami or undershirt, and shoes.

▪ The Quaker women wore plain dresses, a bonnet, and shoes.▪ To church they wore nicer more fashionable dresses to dress appropriately for the occasion.
▪ Today women wear different styles of clothing depending on where they shop.▪ Some women might shop at Aeropostale, American Eagle, JC Penny’s, Macy’s, and many others.
MIDDLE COLONIES v.s MODERN DAY CHILDREN

▪ Quaker children wore simple clothing.▪ The girls wore simple dresses with a bonnet and apron to work in the house.▪ The boys wore simple outfits with trousers and a shirt to help with chores.
▪ Modern children wear clothes that their parents might pick out for them instead of being handmade from the home.

▪ The Southern colonies were more upper-class.▪ If you didn’t have nice clothing and didn’t wear wigs they considered you poor or of a lower-class.
▪ In modern times if you do not have nice clothes people do not consider you poor.▪ Everyone usually wears the same styles and shops at the same places.

▪ The women of the Southern colonies dressed very fancy.

▪ Modern women’s clothing does not always have to be fancy but we do dress up for certain occasions.
