• The university is named after Lawrence Sullivan "Sul" Ross.

• He was a Texas Ranger, Civil War general, Governor of Texas and, later, President of Texas A&M University.

• Sul Ross attended Baylor University• He nearly lost his life during a battle

with Comanches.• As a Texas Ranger, he served in Young
