Cougars ROAR!

SUPERINDENTENT’S CORNER

Greetings!

December was a great month at East Amwell with numerous ac-tivities occurring at the school including classroom activities and a terrific holiday concert. It was great to see so many parents and community members visiting the school throughout the month.

Please note that we moved our first snow make-up day from January 20th to February 14th. School will be closed January 20th for students. Staff will report on the 20th for an In-Service. Moving the date saves us money in transportation costs since the high school is closed for students that date as well.

Enjoy the winter break and let’s hope for zero snow days in Jan-uary!

Make a great day!

Edward Stoloski

PRINCIPAL’S NEWS

Dear Parents, Happy New Year! I hope you had time dur-ing the holiday to relax and spend time with your family. Let me begin by thanking everyone who participated in our Cougar Share Program. This year we raised over $3700 to buy toys and clothing for over 56 children in our area. This is an incredible outpouring of support for children that desperately needed it. Beginning this month, we will be starting our next community service pro-ject “Soup for the Souper Bowl.” We will be asking for donations of canned goods to support our local food pantries. Year after year we have had tremendous support for this program and we hope this year is no different. In December, we began our K-6 Read to Succeed Program under the di-rection of Mr. Rondesko and Ms. Della Penna. The goal of this program is to encourage your child to read daily and develop a love for reading. An information letter was sent out describing the program, but in sum-mary, every child that reads for six hours from December to April 1st will receive a free ticket to Six Flags Great Adventure. We hope that you will support this program and encourage your child to read!

Sincerely,

John Capuano

Principal

8th Annual EATS “Souper” Bowl!

Welcome to the 8th Annual EATS “Souper” Bowl! Donations will be collected throughout the month of January, coinciding with the final weeks before super bowl Sunday. All food items collected will be split and donated to The Fisherman’s Mark Food Pantry in Lambertville and The Flemington Food Pantry in Flemington.

The local food banks are serving over 1,300 families in our communities each month. Now more than ever is a time to show our support for those in need. Hunterdon County is one of the most af-fluent counties in the country, yet we have over 5,000 residents with incomes below the poverty lev-el. Any donations you can make are greatly appreciated.

Suggested donations: Please avoid glass jars.

Low sodium soups/broths

Canned fruit in juice (low sugar)

Unsweetened / Lightly sweetened cereals

Peanut Butter

Canned Chicken

Lowfat Crackers

Dish soap

Rice / low salt

We would like to make the Souper Bowl a school-wide competition involving students and staff members. The competition will be to see which team can bring the most canned goods in each week leading up to the Super Bowl. Stoloski’s Steelers. Please have your child(ren) put their name on a piece of paper with their donation so that they may be entered in the MVP contest. ONE per student per week. TEAM: Cap’s Cowboys Grades PK, 2, 4, 6, 8, Mrs. Runk’s class

TEAM: Stoloski’s Steelers Grades K, 1, 3, 5, 7, Admin and front office

Collections will begin Monday, Jan 6th and run through Friday, Feb 1st (Super Bowl weekend).

Week 1: Jan 6th-12th Week 2: Jan 13th-19th

Week 3: Jan 20th-26th Week 4: Jan 27th-Feb 1st

At the end of each week, we will add up the number of items given by each team and make an an-nouncement over the PA, letting students and staff know the score after each quarter. Two MVPs for each team will also be selected and the MVP will be posted on a bulletin board near the cafete-ria.
