Background

DB already utilising SAP Inventory Management:

Monitor stocks at a high level (i.e. storage location)

Use Batch number to identify bins

Manual Business Activities:

Inbound movements

Outbound movements

Internal activities

Replenishment to part pallet area

Cycle counting

Chep pallet management

Monitoring of SOH

Although SAP IM gave DB some control and visibility, many

challenges remained:

Delayed production receipting(+24 hours)

Poor SOH visibility

Manual batch management

Limited product traceability

Manual cycle counting processes

Restrictions when using off site facilities

Almost no resource management

No platform to advance further

Pre SAP WM Challenges

Why SAP WM?

Flexibility to manage stock at a lower level

• (i.e. pallet/case in a storage bin)

Introduce Track & Trace Functionality

Perform Warehouse tasks using radio frequency devices

• (Handheld scanning devices)

Benefits using SAP WM

Already using SAP IM (Foundation)

Automated processes

Flexibility to manage stock at a lower level

Track & Trace Functionality

Improved Inventory & Picking accuracy

Perform Warehouse tasks using radio frequency devices

Real time visibility & accuracy of stock across multiple sites

Standardise processes across multiple sites

Enable EDI with 3PL Contractors

Lessons Learnt

Blueprint – ‘Show’ not ‘Tell’

Agree Blueprint details (to n’th degree)

Test, Test, Test

Train, Train, Train (Do a competency gap review)

Commit resources sufficiently

Don’t expand scope (if you do, move deadline)

Setup infrastructure early (Wi-Fi etc.)

Ensure awareness & ownership of indirect impacts (BW reporting)

Plan Go Live carefully (How busy will you be?)

Q&A

to trace a batch …
