Helping academics to ‘wysiwyg’ their way

through the many dimensions of online learning environments

What is a storyboard? For designers, storyboards help you

plan for more than one dimension, eg graphics & text Walt Disney

Design Rich Environments for Active Learning in a VLE

Principles of REALs Authentic tasks Active learning Meaningful engagement Collaborative & social learning Intentional learning & reflection

These dimensions of interaction need to be designed in the Unisa Virtual Learning Environment [myUnisa]

Multi-dimensional storyboard

How do we design for online? Start with learning texts

Linear Number of topics [focus areas] to cover

Tools available @ Unisa LMS = myUnisa [SAKAI open source platform]

Email announcements Discussion forums Additional resources: ppt, pdf, URLs, html, doc, Learning Units: interactive teaching texts Wiki: group work & editing Blog: with comments Self-assessment: surveys, quizzes, tests,
