Note that there are no standard English names for many Maldivian

foods, so it may be easier to refer to them by their Dhivehi names even

when speaking English.

When talking about the meat of a certain animal, you simply add ާަމސ

after the name of that animal e.g. beef – ާެގިރަމސ, pork – ާޫއުރަމސ. To

avoid confusion between ާަމސ “meat” and ާަމސ “fish”, you can refer to

fish as ާަކނުޑަމސ.

Words with * do not take ލ when adding suffixes.
