Direct Object Pronouns

*Direct objects receive the action of the verb in a sentence.*They answer the question whom? or what? about a verb.*The direct object can be a noun or a pronoun.

Louisa is buying the blouse. (blouse = noun)Louisa is buying it. (it = pronoun)

Direct Object Pronouns (sometimes called DOPs) in English:

Direct Object Pronouns in Spanish:

Me = MeTe = You (informal)

Lo = Him, it, you (formal)

La = Her, it, you (formal)

Nos = UsOs = You all (informal)

Los = Them, you (formal)

IF there is an INFINITIVE… (an unconjugated verb—ends in ar, er, or ir)…the DOP can be ATTACHED to the infinitive! How fun!

Yo quiero comprar los zapatos negros.We replaced “zapatos negros” with “los” and placed it….BEFORE THE CONJUGATED VERB!

Yo los quiero comprar.But if you want to be super fancy and have fun, you can ATTACH the DOP to an infinitive. Do you see an infinitive?Yes…ComprarSo your sentence becomes…

Yo quiero comprarlos.
