Hello!

There is a kid in all of us! The kid in me is thrilled to present this coloring book featuring ways to take advantage of the Every Kid in a Park initiative in Wyoming. With an Every Kid in a Park pass, all fourth graders and their families have even more opportunities to explore and learn about where we live.

Parents, you are your child’s most important teacher! Children are learning about life through the experiences we provide outside of the school day.

Whether you are new to Wyoming or have spent your whole life here, the splendor of our state and federally managed lands offers families endless opportunity for adventure, learning, and fun. From well-known places like Yellowstone to hidden gems like Boar’s Tusk, your family’s adventure begins here and now with this book.

Enjoy this coloring book, find your “inner kid,” and get out and enjoy your own Wyoming adventures!

Hi, there! My name is Cassidy and my dog Buford and I are traveling around Wyoming with our Every Kid in a Parkpasses! Join us to see some of the amazing places you

can visit for free as a 4th grade student!

The Wyoming Historic Governor’s Mansion is the home of my hero, Nellie Tayloe Ross, the first female governor.

Buford’s hero is Max, Governor Leslie Miller’s

black dachshund.

Curt Gowdy State Park has lots of trails to hike on. Mom says I need to work off all that energy, but

Buford is more hyper than I am!

Fort Laramie was the first permanent settlement in Wyoming and used to be a stop on the Pony Express. Giddyup!

Fossil Butte National Monument has tons of fossils! Some nearby places will even let you dig for your own.

Buford and I love cross-country skiing! Grand Teton National Park is one of our favorite places to go during the winter.

Yellowstone National Park is home to Old Faithful, a geyser that shoots water up to 140 feet in the air! I still have a lot of

growing to do, but I don’t think I’ll ever be quite THAT tall.

South Pass was the easiest route through the mountains. Every traveler on the Oregon Trail rolled through South Pass.

Hot Springs State Park is the largest mineral hotspring in the entire world!

Medicine Lodge is a State Archeological Site, and has hundreds of petroglyphs and pictographs. Look at these

examples and try creating some of your own!

Devils Tower used to be a volcano! In fact, the tower used to be magma that cooled into stone. Native American legend says

bears left the huge scratch marks in the sides.

Thanks for joining Cassidy and Buford on their trip! You can enjoy your own Wyoming adventures free for a full year!

All kids in the fourth grade have access to their own Every Kid in a Park pass at www.everykidinapark.gov. This pass provides free access for fourth graders and three accompanying adults (or an entire car for drive-in parks) to federally-managed sites in Wyoming and across the country.

In addition, Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources will honor Every Kid in a Park passes that have the state parks sticker included with this coloring book.

You need to print your pass and bring it with you when you visit. Electronic copies aren’t accepted. At certain participating sites, you can exchange the paper pass for a durable plastic Interagency Annual 4th Grade Pass. Your pass has a unique code. That means you can’t copy it and give it to friends. Encourage your friends to get their own pass if they’re in the fourth grade.

The Every Kid in a Park program is designed to continue each year with the then-current group of fourth graders.

The Every Kid in a Park program is administered in partnership with the Department of the Interior,

the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Education, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
