AmonthlynewsletterfromtheMilfordExemptedVillageSchoolDistrictBoardofEducationTheMilfordBoardofEducationhelditsregularBoardofEducationmeetingatMeadowviewElementaryonFebruary15,2018.Priortothestartoftheregularmeeting,arecordscommissionmeetingwasheld.PresentationsWelcomeMrs.KelliEllison,PrincipalofMeadowviewElementaryandMrs.JulieWilliamson,SchoolPsychologistspokeaboutthePBISprogram,apositivebehaviorprogramthatencouragesstudentstoberespectful,responsible,andproblemsolvers.MeadowviewiscurrentlyimplementingTier2interventionsdirectedatthe10-15percentofthestudentswhoarestrugglingwiththesebehaviors.Ateamfromtheschoollooksatthebehavioraldatatoseewhichstudentsarehavingdifficultyandfollowupwithavarietyofinterventionsandsupport.ClermontCountyLibraryTheresaHerron,theCommunicationsManageratClermontCountyPublicLibrary,invitedthepublictothegrandopeningofthenewMilfordbranchlocatedonBuckwheatRoadonSaturday,March17at1p.m.Ms.Herronsharedfeaturesofthenewbranch.Therewillbethreestudyroomswithalargemonitoranddryeraseboardsfortutoringand/orindividualstudyaswellastwolargemeetingrooms.ThenewMilfordbranchalsofeaturesanoutsidecourtyardwherepatronscanrelaxandread,andaMakerLabwitha3Dprinter.MilfordCheerleadersRecognitionMrs.HouserecognizedMilfordCoachChristyGregoryandthecompetitioncheerteamfortheirrecentaccomplishments.TheteamnowcompetesinthetopUCAcircuitwheretheyqualifiedandcompetedatnationalsinOrlando.Theteamfinished4thinthenon-stuntingtraditionalcompetitionand3rdoverallintheGameDaydivision.Forthethirdyearinarow,theMilfordcheersquadalsofinishedfirstintheECC.

GreatOaksReportMr.DaveYockeysharedthataneconomicimpactstudyofGreatOakswasconductedwhichshowedthesignificantimpactthecareertechnicalcenterhasonthelocaleconomy.Hereportedthat14Milfordseniorsarecurrentlyemployedintheircareerfieldwithfull-timeemploymentoffersupongraduation.Athletics/ExtracurricularReportMrs.DebbieMarquesandMr.GeorgeLucasreportedonachievementsofthewinterathleticseasonandhighlightsfromthehighschooldramaandmusicdepartment.BusinessAdvisoryCouncil(BAC)NoreportStudentCouncilRepresentativesMilfordstudentsMaddieAtwellandLydiaKragereportedthatStudentCouncilisplanninganotherPromforareastudentswithspecialneedsonApril8,atMilfordHighSchool.Milfordispartneringwithotherschooldistrictstoopenthedancetomorestudents.StudentCouncilisalsoplanningMilfordHighSchool’spromforSaturday,April28.StudentCouncilisworkingwiththeTeachingProfessionsAcademytoraisemoneyfortheLeukemiaSocietyandisworkingonitsstudentambassadorprogramtohostasuccessfairforjuniorsandseniors.PublicParticipationNoneTreasurer’sReportMrs.DebbieCaudleTheBoardapprovedthefollowing:• Financialreportsforthemonth

andauthorizingthenecessarytaxleviesandcertifyingthemtotheCountyAuditor.Thisresolutiontakesplaceannuallyandgivesthedistrictanestimateontaxcollectionsforbudgetingpurposes.

• ResolutiontoestablishperOhioRevisedCodethedollarlimitof$1,000,000.00forblanketandsuperblanketpurchaseordersperlineitemappropriation.

Superintendent’sReportMrs.NancyHouseMrs.Housesharedseveralhighlightsfromthepastmonth:• Therewere210studentswho

registeredfortheall-daykindergartenlottery.Therewillbetwosectionsofall-daykindergartenclassesatPattison,McCormick,andSeipelt.TheclassatSeipelthasspaceforthestudentswhowereclosedoutofthelotteryatMeadowview,Mulberry,andSmithElementarySchools.

• AdministratorsandcounselorsatMilfordJuniorHighandtheNinthGradeCommunityhaveheldtransitionmeetingsforincoming7thand9thgradestudentsandtheirparents.

• MilfordHighSchoolAutismBehaviorUnithasbeenpairedwiththeirservicedog,Buffy.Theteacher,TrenaPanko,hasbeenintraininginXenia,Ohioat4PawsforAbility.Itisthefirsttime4PawshasplacedanAutismAssistanceFacilitydogwithaschoolclassroom.

Mrs.HousealsosharedexamplesofinnovativeSTEM,STEAM,andserviceprojectsgoingonthroughoutthedistrict.ActionItems• TheBoardapproved17policiesrecommendedby

theOhioSchoolBoardAssociation.
