Technical points about the dribble•Stick stays on the ground and the ball the entire time•Stick is vertical or slightly under the ball when moving from left to right and right to left•stock turns over the top of the ball when at the left or right end point•The left hand’s right thumb is down the back of the stick•Check this by holding the stick vertically out in front of you•The left wrist should be vertical and flat like a cricket stop•The right hand is half way down the stick•The elbows are bent•The right wrist is bent•The ankles, knees, and back are bent•Head if up looking around the field

Derek E. Pappas Copyright © 2009

Pakistani right to left to right drag

•ball is on the straight part of the stick off of the right foot•right wrist/elbow are bent•stick is dragged to the left and right arm straightens-stick “wraps around the ball”•ball is dragged in an arc•ball is dragged back to the right

Make the defender commit.

Get the defender out of their center of gravity-leaning to one side.

Derek E. Pappas Copyright © 2009

Eliminating goal keepersDo not run through them. They will take you out.

Run across their bodies.

Watch out for the dive and their one armed tackle with the stick.

Derek E. Pappas Copyright © 2009

Shoot when the goalie is out of positionBlue has “dragged” the goalie out of position and has an open shot at goal. The defender went for the ball instead of running with the forward. The defender is eliminated.

Derek E. Pappas Copyright © 2009

What should the defender have done?

The defender made a weak one arm reverse stick tackle and missed the ball. The defender should have channeled the forward into the goalie who can then “take them out”.

Derek E. Pappas Copyright © 2009

The forward is free to shootThe defender should be next to the forward to jab tackle the ball away.

Derek E. Pappas Copyright © 2009
