1. The Game
Putting together a squad from the best players at the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ takes skill,
research and shrewdness. All users start off equal, with an impressive €100 million to spend
on their fantasy team. Balance that budget, make sure you have the stars that are sure to
shine brightest and score you valuable points, but also, always make room for those potential
surprises that could make all the difference.
You can still join the game after the tournament has started, but you will not score any points
for past rounds which you have missed.
After your squad is complete, you must select 11 players for your starting line-up.
Players can only play in their designated position. For example, you can't play a designated
defender as a midfielder or striker.
Players will be assigned a designated position for the duration of the fantasy game. The
position they end up playing in an actual match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup is not relevant to
the fantasy scoring. Fantasy points will be calculated based upon a player’s fixed fantasy
position.
2. Your Squad
Have a look at the list of available players on the transfer market and set up your squad. It’s one squad per user and multiple squads will be deleted.
You have a budget of €100 million to set up your squad. This will increase to €105 million for the knockout stages. You must have 15 players in your squad.
Squads must consist of at least:
2 Goalkeepers 5 Defenders 5 Midfielders 3 Strikers
You can have a maximum of three players from each individual national team. This limit is raised throughout the competition as teams are eliminated. The player limits are:
Group Stage: 3 players from the same team Round of 16: 4 players from the same team Quarter-finals: 5 players from the same team Semi-finals: 6 players from the same team Final: 8 players from the same team
From your squad you must select 11 players to form your starting team. Only starting players will earn points for your team. Your starting 11 players must be selected in order of defenders, midfielders and strikers as per one of the below valid formations before the respective rounds kick-off:
• 5-3-2 • 5-2-3 • 5-4-1 • 4-4-2 • 4-3-3 • 4-5-1 • 3-5-2 • 3-4-3
Please note that your team and any changes you make will require you to press the ‘SAVE’ button to ensure that your changes are processed.
After all matches on a single day have finished and before the next round of matches start, you can:
- Replace any player (unless they were sent off) with one from your bench whose team is yet to play; and
- Change your captain (if he was not sent off) with a player from your squad whose team is yet to play.
Players who are substituted out will score 0 points. The captain bonus will be lost from your original captain if a new captain is selected. Substitutions and captain changes can't be cancelled once confirmed.
An unlimited number of substitutions can be made, although it is not possible to make them after games on the last day of the round as all fixtures will have been completed.
If your goalkeeper plays no part in the round, then your replacement goalkeeper will be substituted in, if he played in that round.
If any of your outfield players play no part in a round, then the game will substitute the inactive player for one of your replacements. This is done by replacing them with your highest priority substitute who did play, and doesn't break the formation rules (e.g. if your starting team has three defenders, a defender can only be replaced by another defender). You can change your substitution priorities on the 'My Team' page. Note that, if a manual substitution or captain change is made, then no automatic substitutions will take place in your team for that round. If no manual substitutions or captain changes are made, automatic substitutions will take place at the end of the round (if applicable), after all fixtures for that round have been completed.
If you don’t make any changes to your team, the current selected starting 11 will continue to score points for you in accordance with the mechanism above as the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ progresses.

* The final round consist of both the third place play-off and the final match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup™.
Once a round is over and points have been finalised (points will be finalised one hour after the final match(es) of the day are completed), you may navigate to the selected round. You can then see the points tally for that particular round. It will also show which players, if any, have automatically been substituted from the bench.
You can modify your squad throughout the season in the transfer market in accordance with the limitations set out in the above table for each round. You will also be entitled to one wildcard, which will allow you to make unlimited transfers for a round. The wildcard must be played prior to the start of the respective round and can be used only once during the tournament.
If you wish to play your wildcard you must make at least one additional transfer for the wildcard button to enable
All players that are a part of the final player listing will be valued before the start of the 2018
FIFA World Cup™ based on available data. Original player prices will remain the same until the
group stage. Upon completion of the group stage, player prices will change depending on their
performances in the 2018 FIFA World Cup™.
Users that finish in first, second and third position for a round will receive the respective
round’s prize. (See the prizes page for full details). A user can only win one (1) round prize for
the duration of the game. If a user who has already won a round prize finishes in the top 3 for
another round they will be ineligible for that second prize and such a prize will be awarded to
the next best user in the rankings. A user can, however, win both one round prize and one
overall prize for McDonald's FIFA World Cup Fantasy.
4. Leagues
Every user is automatically entered into the following leagues:
- the overall league comprising all registered McDonald's FIFA World Cup Fantasy users; - a league for fellow users from your country of residence; and - a league of users who support the same country as you.
You can also take on your friends and colleagues in a private league. You can create a maximum of twenty (20) private leagues. However, there is no limit to the number of mini-leagues you can participate in, nor is there a limit on the number of users allowed to join a private league. You can allow anyone to join your private league by providing them with the unique league code. You can also suspend users from your own created private league. Simply go to My Leagues and go through the process of either joining or creating a league.
The points and ranks of users within the leagues will be updated after the points calculation of the final game on a particular day. Please note however that the official prizes only apply to the official 2018 FIFA World Cup™ McDonald’s Fantasy game and not to the private leagues. Further, there will be no live leaderboard for private or public leagues.
5. Scoring
Every player receives points for what he does on the pitch, based on the statistic analysis of the match. Depending on their success, players will receive positive or sometimes even negative points. The following points are awarded during the evaluation:
Points
Action Points Goalkeeper Defender Midfielder Striker
Playing 1-59 minutes 1
Playing 60+ minutes 2
Goal scored 6 6 5 4
Assist* 3
Clean sheet (only if player
plays more than 60 minutes) 6 4 1 0
Every three saves made by a
goalkeeper 1
Penalty save 5
Earning a penalty** 2
Every 2 goals conceded
(Goalkeeper and Defender) -1 0
Yellow card -1
Red card -3
Own goal -2
Foul causing a penalty -1
Penalty miss -2
* Assists will be credited to a player on basis of the official statistics of a match as published on FIFA.com.
** Not applicable in case penalties are awarded due to handball.
Note: events occurring within extra time are counted, but penalty shoot-outs do not.
Clean Sheets:
A clean sheet is awarded for not conceding a goal whilst on the pitch and playing at least 60
minutes.
If a goal is conceded after a player has been substituted out from the match this will not affect
any clean sheet bonus. Example if player A is substituted at the 62nd minute and a goal is
conceded by player A’s team at 65 minutes, he is eligible for the clean sheet.
Red Cards:
If a player receives a red card, they will continue to be penalised for goals conceded by their
team.
Red card deductions include any points deducted for yellow cards.
Additional scoring considerations
Your team captain, which you can change for each round, will score double points. If you fail
to select a captain then no player will score double points.
You are deducted four points from your overall score for every transfer you make above the
available free transfers for a round. Your round and phase points will not be affected by this
deduction.
Any unused transfers will be forfeited in the next round.
Boosters
Maximum Captain:
This booster automatically makes the highest scoring player from your final starting 11 as the
captain after the final points of the respective round have been calculated. This booster must
be played prior to the start of the respective round and can be used only once during the
tournament.
Bench Boost:
The points of all 15 players are counted for the round in which this booster has been played.
This card must be played prior to the start of the respective round and it can be used only
once during the tournament.
6. Winning
The user who finishes in first place on the overall leaderboard for McDonald’s FIFA World
Cup Fantasy at the end of the game will be declared the contest winner and win the Grand
Prize.

leaderboard) and three (3) runners-up prizes to be won. The users that finish in third
through fifth position on the overall leaderboard at the end of the game will receive the
respective runner-up prizes.
There are also separate round prizes within the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy game.
The round winners will be the users that finish in first place through to third place on the
respective round’s leaderboard at the conclusion of that respective round. Points will be
finalised one hour after the final match(es) of a particular round. To view the round results,
you may navigate to the round results page once the round is over. Users that finish in first,
second and third place for each round will receive a round prize. (Please see the prizes page
for full details). However, a user can only win one (1) round prize for the duration of the
game. In the event that a user who has already won a round prize, finishes in the top 3 for
another round, the prize will be awarded to the next best eligible user.
A user can win both one overall prize and one round prize for McDonald’s FIFA World Cup
Fantasy. Please see the prizes page (available here) for full details.
